While she is the main character, she has no grasp of consequentialist ethics, and seems to be entirely unable to consider the big picture, or the medium picture, or any picture other than her immediate view. Plus, a huntress wouldn't really be able to conduct any sort of administration or direction work, unless she was just LARPing.

Well a thing you gotta remember is that Akuma isn't is actual name so the whole mythological thing you can ignore.
As for character archetype he is essentially just out to get stronger and ultimately become the most powerful being.
He doesn't want to rule the world just hone his craft and make it the most potent.
In that regard you could make your OC a very strict teacher that beats the shit out of his students and doesn't use a weapon, or you can just make him a traveling hermit, fighting and killing all hunters/grimm in his way.
Best part is you essentially don't have to tie this character to anyone one faction but rather just have it as neutral evil.

I really hope it sticks, though. I really doubt it will, but now that they have pretense to remove her from succession, there really isn't any reason she should ever be restored.

Weiss was retarded for not realizing Jacques could hand everything to Whitley, but this idea that being a huntress would leave her incapable of running the business is equally dumb. Jacques sure as hell wouldn't drop the company to spend time with his family, so the heir isn't getting shit until he drops dead. He's the oldest looking dad but he's not wrinkly, doesn't seem sickly, and he's rich enough to afford robot organs if it came down to it. She would likely be in her 30s at LEAST by the time it happens, around the age we've seen other hunters settled down into teaching jobs.

She could build a name for herself as a huntress, take time off to get the Remnant equivalent of business degrees and personal tutoring from Jacques, and be entirely ready for the job by the time her huntress days were over. Might not be as good as a full time huntress or ready as quickly as a pure businessman, but it could work.

Weiss' story is too predictable, and her father and brother are far too flat of characters. Blake's back story has been retconned, and they really tripped over themselves by just throwing away the "corrupt branch" of the White Fang.

Yang has potential for some good character growth, and I'm really liking where Ruby and RNJR are going with their story.

Best to wait of the best of the volume, I suppose.

It was not reconnected. A lot of people, the vast majority assumed that Blake was a orphan who grew up poor, and the White Fang adopted her. It turned out instead that she comes from a rich and influential family. She talks about racism, when she clearly lived secluded in her own palace. If she had been an orphan, struggling to survive and being oppressed by human racists, that would make her more believable, and a better character. But now she is instead a privileged SJW.

Best way to do it is actually the way the Assassin's Fist fan series tackled it.
Basically he has a tremendous amount of power but it is also constantly hurting and tearing his body apart.
So have it to where he can do these huge bursts of power in a near OP sense but after about 3 minutes have it be severely weak, or have the aura be completely drained. To compensate for that make it to where he holds back most of the time.
The one thing you may need to 86 or redesign is the Raging Demon. For an actual move template go with UMvC3.

Ruby and Yang would both be overly skilled and serious for their ages because of their upbringing. She's 16. That said, there is a bit of a plot hole. Even if qrow didn't want to show off and hurt her feelings when training her and there were literally no non-kid tourneys, she still saw thw qrow vs winter fight from brawl in the family. She'd just fought remarkably poorly against the guy too. She couldn't even get a bead on him as well. It's just basic power level shit. The big problem is that RNJR couldn't read between the lines. She thought Qrow was telling her to just sit back and let things happen, and there's no way she was going to do that after what happened with Pyrrha, and NR completely stopped after he told them to stay back.

He wasn't against RNJR helping, he just didn't want them getting close because Tyrian would be bouncing between everyone like a fucking pinball again. But if he explicitly told them to box him in with gunfire he might've bumrushed the kids. Ruby seemed to follow at first and her sniping gave Qrow his first opening, but that "fine!" was angry so I don't think she realized she was following his plan.

Pretty much. It's yet another example of how Ruby isn't thinking like a pro yet. She had no idea Qrow had a plan because he wasn't yelling attack strategy names out loud. Qrow seemed to be trying to trick Tyrian into getting one of the buildings to fall on him, but Ruby not only doesn't pick up on this but doesn't even notice the structural issues and almost falls into the trap herself instead.

I don't think that it's so much that the Schnees are necromancers. Grimm are essentially amalgamations of of negative emotions, the dark half of a human soul. Their summons are constructs created from their Aura, their soul, without the negativity attached. It would explain why Weiss can't do it well with all her hang-ups unless she is 100% committed to something. Like shutting up a real rich bitch in the most effective, brutal way possible.

So Ozpin was basically a vessel for the soul of the original wizard. And from the way Ozpin talked, he's far from having been the first one, especially if the Four Maidens story is so old as to be considered a fairy tale now. So what I'm wondering is, is there even an 'Ozpin' left? Does the wizard take over the host 'for the good of the world' and shove aside the host's personality? Or is the host's soul just one more consciousness added to the line, with dozens or even hundreds of others rattling around in there a la Avatar? But not this.

Its total fusion. He has all the hosts, but he doesn't ring them up Avatar style, he just recalls their memories because they're his memories now. Oscar will be effectively pushed aside, not because the wizard is intentionally suppressing him, but because Oscar's life is just a small portion of the wizard's life now. He's still there, he'll still add a bit of Oscar flavor to the wizard gestalt, but soon Oscar is going to feel that the battle with Salem is HIS battle, and his short few years as a farmer were nothing but a pleasant vacation.

You could still self-insert into a well written fic where all the characters are in character. Like if you use self-insert into a fic where Ren fucks Nora, your waifu, but Ren is still pretty much within character then it's all good. You could self-insert into Jaune or any other characrer in a fic where he's in character as well. Meanwhile, the fic can work on it's own even if you don't self-insert as the characters are still in character.

The former rarely or never has any decent fics out there because it has to revolve around a self-insert and can't work on it's own without self-insertion.

Maybe there was never a love triangle. Tai's known the others for years, long enough to have learned just about everything there is to know about them. Summer died before Ruby could remember her, and any questions she had could probably be filled in by Tai in a semi-generic dad way. He's just raising Ruby out of respesct for a good friend.

I think that's why Monty was insistent on keeping the two half-sisters or biological. It just makes things much simpler and keeps useless drama out of the show Not like that stopped him from adding any other but Ruby was special i guess

Also, as Qrow was meant to be Monty's self-insert, I think he'd prefer to be known as that cool uncle then a deadbeat dad.

Here's the thing
It wouldn't add drama to the show, its just makes Qrow a deadbeat dad and a massive hypocrite, and that's really it. Ultimately it doesn't change the plot, won't add any drama to Ruby because she's exactly the type of person who'd take this in stride (because she knows no other way to take it if nothing else) and it won't change any of the dynamics
Its a damp squib as story

The morning after, she reveals the copious pictures she took during and after the act, when Qrow was too drunk/passed out to notice she'd changed back to normal.

Everything about her character revolves arounf the White Fang which, honestly, could be taken out of the show and minimal changes would occur.

Notice how he said that Summer Rose was Ruby's mother but not that Taiyang was their father. He had to lie about them being half-sisters, because if his word was only that they were related by blood and their family dynasmic was revealed, it would be blatantly obvious that Taiyang wasn't her father.

Not everything everyone says is always a lie. Note that early on they kept acting very vague about how Ruby and Yang were related before coming out that they were half-sisters, which isn't something to be secretive about.

At a basic level, just look at Ruby. She and Taiyang share no traits at all. Yang at least has a mix of her mother and father's features, but Ruby looks nothing like him. She doesn't even have his last name. With Qrow you could at least make an argument that Ruby has darker hair than her mother.

Hell, when Qrow is talking to the girls about "their mother" the moment he sees Yang staring at Raven in the photo he covers her face with his thumb, as if to stop Yang from looking and asking questions.
