She's proven fairly popular and by using her they don't have to waste time establishing her. That's more time that can be spent on character development and interactions, and advancing the plot

Character development and interactions are what establish a character.

Even if they were to use her, not re-establishing her for this completely different movie would be poor writing.

Plus, she's not a New Mutant.

The Dani story was completely disconnected. It's the first time she's shown up since Fearless Defenders I think.

Marvel can't help but pander hard to the movie crowd, even if it's not their movies.
They also did an Apocalypse event when the last X-Men movie came out.

Oh fuck, that means they'll do a New Mutants book when this releases.
