>>87596083Johnson was literally the only candidate that was running who had any executive experience, or any experience in politics, period.
His main opponents were Austin Petersen a guy who is known within the Libertarian community for being Libertarian but hasn't actually accomplished much, and John McAfee who is murder suspect in Belize. Not exactly the types you want running for President when your party is held up to scrutiny that Republicans and Democrats don't face.
Johnson definitely IS a Libertarian; he's just not a hardcore anarchist Libertarian, but is of the more moderate bent.
He definitely knows a bit about geographic, as he was predicting that arming the rebels in Syria would lead to an ISIS-like situation as far back as 2012, and his plan to work with Russia to negotiate a cease-fire happened literally days after his Aleppo interview (of course it didn't last on account of American soldiers accidentally firing on Russian troop, but no one saw that coming).
>>87596206Not true at all, from the very beginning Johnson / Weld planned to gain enough support to qualify for the debates. They came as close as 13% of the 15% necessary to win, but the CPD didn't allow them to debate because they didn't make their arbitrary cutoff despite a majority of Americans wanting him in. In fact, the polls they used were even more skewed against them, as some of them didn't even mention them by name, and the CPD actually picked older polls where they were doing worse and used that as further justification that they should not be allowed on the debate stage.
After failing to make the debates, they switched their goals to winning New Mexico possibly (where he was governor and was polling as high as 25%) , and getting 5% or greater overall, which they tried to accomplish by holding rallies across the country and doing a media blitz. However, in the end, they only had $10 million which severely hampered their ability to hold a national campaign.
