Blogpost incoming.
So, I hadn't read any Spider-Man after Superior Spider-Man #1. Issue #700, and really Ends of the Earth as a whole, I thought were great--right up to the ending. And well, that ending just soured me on Spidey big time.
I had a few issues left over in my subscription, but after the HAHA he isn't ded mindswap bullshit, I'd just had enough of the publicity stunt bullshit and stopped reading. (I even have a few more issues I never read from that subscription).
Event fatigue was already weighing pretty hard on me too, at this point and it seemed like a good point. Spider-man, like a lot (most?) people was my first inroad into Marvel, and even though I was a big X-fag, Spidey remained sort of an anchor for me. I'm not a characterfag, either, but Spider-man has always been a good place to measure the pulse of Marvel, I think.
Well, it was at that exact moment that Marvel, for me, went from being """alive""" to flatlining. I was reading several titles at the time, and just starting some new ones that I was really looking forward to (Remender Cap/UA, Scarlet Spider, WatXM, Hickman's Avengers started out really strong and had me hooked too).
Well, anyways, over the next few months, my Marvel pull went down to about zero, then went everything else quickly went away.
So, anyways skip forward a few years to this summer, and I've been catching up with stuff, and enjoying a lot of the titles I missed. All-New X-Factor, Magneto, Cable & X-Force, X-Force, Legacy, Uncanny Avengers, to name a few highlights.
Still, I hadn't caught up on Spidey (and I doubt I ever will). I woke up this morning and wasn't even aware this was coming out, but I opened the thread and read it, and man, it's nice. It just feels kinda like home. I wish the rest of muh Marvel felt the same way, but I'm glad this does. I'm happy to say it's now on my (very small) pull list, and I hope we get a really good run out of it.
