And originally it was subtle hints that didn't do shit to ground the show in any sort of "reality".

I mean, I get what you're saying. But Roadrunner cartoons didn't need a DEEPER STORY to be memorable. They were just funny.
Magiswords is sometimes funny. And then it shoots itself in the foot by not giving you even a second to laugh before they rush into the next joke or joke attempt.
The show is too fast-paced. Like others I think it could work for younger kids but I haven't actually checked.
