Delayed due to New York Comic Con (And I’m compiling this on a flight right now…) This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the “Wednesday Warriors”, those who can’t wait to the weekend to get this week’s comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

Marvel got Death of X and Now Champions into the top ten. Though for a first issue Champions still was easily beat by 6 DC Rebirth titles that did not have the first issue advantage. Now Cage started out very poorly sales wise. Now Jessica did decent. No one thinks “Now” (again) is a good tag line for Marvel’s books. Not a great start for Marvel’s latest launch. Walking Dead we would have sold more of but didn’t know the “death” would be such a big deal. More copies are still available which is good.

>Another strong week for sales. The past month+ has been a nice bounce back from a lackluster summer. DC’s Rebirth surge has almost fully worn off for us. Aquaman and Green Lantern books are back to N52 sales numbers or lower. Cyborg and Midnighter and Apollo are barely a blip on sales radar. The only significant uptick that has stuck so far is on the Super-books, Superman specifically. What sold well before is what continues to sell well. Bat-books and Justice League took #s 1 and 2 this week.

>Even split for the BigTwo with Marvel and DC having four books each on the list and Image two. Walking Dead was #3 and Paper Girls #6. People cannot get enough Paper Girls. For how consistantly good its been, Amazing Spider-Man is starting to slip for us. Historically its been Marvel’s #1 seller every issue but Iron Man over took it this week at #s 4 and 5. Doctor Strange and Death of X took the last two spots. Customers seem eager for something significant to happen in the X-books.

Best debut of the week (in a week of many, many #1s) goes to Moonshine. I personally could not be more thrilled to have a new Risso/Azzarello book. I only fear shipping delays hurting single issue sales (*cough* Bitch Planet *cough*.) Worst debut would go to Shade, The Changing Girl. Not very encouraging if DC is wanting Young Animal to be the next Vertigo.

Nightwing has definitely picked up with that Monster Man crossover (I’m still not a fan of that arc), and Walking Dead has been great as always and is our 4th bestseller so far. I haven’t seen any new faces come in for any of the new Marvel NOW stuff just yet, so I hope they’ll do some advertising outside of this industry, but I’m not holding my breath.

>We are still selling a lot of Walking Dead and Saga back issues. Still moving lots of Rebirth runs and other older Uncanny X-Men and Amazing Spider-Man issues. Not any major issues, just a few issues here and there. Decent amount of interest in All New Ghost Rider with Robbie Reyes’ SHIELD appearances as well.

There are people complaining about how the crossover issues aren't in the TPBs despite them serving no purpose since the story parts are designed so that you need to read the other books. There are people who would rather have 2 issues of broken up parts of a 6 part story than have them replaced by the following 2 issue arc. People are fucking stupid.

There will be differences from store to store but yes, they do tend to reflect a trend.

The tweets from Big Bang Comics in Ireland (in >>86876216 ) alone isn't enough to confirm things, but Big Bang Comics' tweets, their talks to other stores around Ireland, plus that one retailer in Philly and one in Northern California who talks to them on Twitter, AND Bleeding Cool talking to 8 retailers (one of which is Graham Crakers, which has 10 locations), that's enough to see a trend, which is that Rebirth is still doing well, Cyborg and Death of Hawkman isn't, Shade the Changing Girl needs better attention, and Marvel is having some severe problems.

This is a top 10 of the small sample size of retailers Rich talks to. So it won't reflect what's on the Diamond chart, which itself is preorders.

But what it is though is reports on what's actually selling at a store, which is sometimes more useful. When October's chart shows up you'll see that Champions will be at the top because of the alleged 400,000 orders. But what you don't get from the chart is how many of those sold. The BC article had one retailer ordering 250 copies but only selling 10 during the first week. The tweets from the Big Bang Comics guy in Ireland said that he only sold barely half of his preorders and another retailer in northern California said his store had about the same sales. Other stores said Champions is selling well but not selling as well as some Rebirth titles (which is kind of a problem because Champions is being set up as like the flagship Marvel Now 2 title).

Well for starters Invincible Iron Man #14 was supposed to be the first appearance of Riri, but it turned out not to be. I presume most of the people buying it assumed she would be in it.

Second is that Champions #1 debuted that week and there was a big push for it by Marvel. Multiple variants, orders from Scholastic, and so on. With all the push around it people believed it would top the charts among the stores and yet it didn't.

I thought it was fun, not really anything that good, until I read Wagner's Batman and the Monster Men.

Night of the Monster Men is a sequel to that both in tone and villain, it's really made Night of a much better read in my opinion.

Marvel said that Champions was going to be the "flagship" of the new Marvel NOW.

I have no idea why except that they didn't have anything better to push.

With ANAD Marvel they pushed Iron Man as the flagship because it was their mission to make Tony Stark as popular in the comics as he is in the movies. We saw how that worked out.

I don't know, I think some of the stuff that happened recently has soured Marvel on SJWs. I mean you have Alonso using "SJW" as a negative term, which did not make the Comics Alliance types happy.

We'll see what happens, but the Captain America freakstorm seemed like a turning point. Maybe I'm overoptimistic.
