I was sad to hear that WB hired a trailer house company to edit the movie. I'm interested in seeing what Ayer intended for the movie. Personally I don't think BvS extended cut added much beyond the communion scene, which is a weird scene to cut out. Suicide Squad should have been edited the way Ayer wanted and you could tell Leto was pissed alot of his scenes were cut. I'm genuinely interested to see how this changes the movie.

I think DCs biggest problem is editing. MOS, BvS and SS all had good movies hidden in there but the movies always seem to be about 30 minutes too long. In MOS the problem was somewhere in the middle and towards the end. In BvS the problem was in the beginning and abit in the middle. With SS it was mostly towards the middle and end. Regardless shaving off 30 minutes of garbage from these movies would have made some so much better. I hope WB starts letting there directors edit there own movies and Geoff Johns doesn't let them go too far with shit like MOS snapping necks or BvS making Superman look like an asshole when only Batman should appear that way.

Of course, it would all fall apart if audiences caught on and stopped going to the theater, but I think that may be giving the average movie-goer too much credit.

This is completely the fault of execs at WB

They forced Snyder to cut BvS to 2.5hrs just get more money despite being shown a 4hr version they applauded.

Then they completely panicked about the reception BvS was getting, and so they took control of SS by ordering reshoots and getting the trailer company to edit the movie.

Wonder Woman will be very important to WB now, let's see if they've learnt any lessons.

Basically. Extended and alternate cuts of movies come out all the fucking time. Blade Runner has FIVE fucking cuts - workprint, theatrical, international, director, final. Suicide Squad is having a fantastic theatrical run, but people were clamoring to see the additional Joker and Harley material, so they're giving it to them. Good for WB.

it was supposed to be 3 hours release and he had 4 hours of footage to work with, the WB crowd got to see the 3 hours cut and loved it, at the end we got the theatrical cut wich was 2 1/5 hours long. Some are guessing because you can have more showings in cinema, a 3 hours movie is why harder to shedule, basically they got cocky and it backfired.

SS is currently $321 million domestic. It's about 7 million (give or take) off from BvS at the same point. This about that... the movie with BATMAN and SUPERMAN facing off was barely higher at that point than SS is now. BvS was a disaster and the critics panned it heavily. You guys are celebrating those tumblrinas going to see SS for Harley/Joker's "relationship goals" perfect vision where they do what they want and fuck instead of accepting the truth of Joker using and abusing Harley like he would a gun in the heat of the moment. That's fucked up.

SS will close below $330 million having Joker and Harley heavily advertised. BvS closed at $330 million having Batman and Superman. What's above them domestically? Guardians of the Galaxy at $333 million domestic. A movie sold entirely on the idea of fun and the Marvel brand name with a bunch of nobodies doing weird space shit. For WB/DC, that's a reason to just fucking fire people across the board starting at the top.

I hope promoting Geoff Johns means DC and WB will have some checks and balances with these movies.

So far MOS, BvS and SS were okay but critically hated and had some serious editing and pacing problems. The tone, music and fights were good for me but bad editing is noticeable even to a casual movie goer.

I think Wonder Woman will be DCs first hit.

In many ways it's not that surprising. Marvel started with Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 and Thor 1. Wonder Woman being a fusion of Thor 1 and Cap 1 of course.

Different editing can save any DC movie. I would be interested to see fan edits of MOS, BvS and SS. It's not like movies don't have good scenes, fights, music etc.

I just think all of these movies are about 20 minutes too long and have some bizarre editing choices which hurt the movies reception.

I have a strong feeling that JL will be the first "fresh" movie (though the quality will be the same). Wonder Woman will be critics trying to make up for audience backlash but some still clinging to the old anti-DC bias, leading to a 50-55% rating. JL will solidify it at maybe 75%.

I think the biggest problem was with front loading the movie with backstory, when it was apparently intended to begin in media res. The weird cut of Flagg and Enchantress setting the bomb was supposed to be revealed when Deadshot found those papers before the bar scene and stuff like that.

From what I've read it was meant to be done exactly like Deadpool was (simple story, constantly cutting back to origins,) but the studio fucked it up. Ironically the studio tried to fuck up Deadpool's editing too but ended up not doing it, and we saw that that was the right choice.

Despite that, Suicide Squad only made around 34 million less globally than Guardians, while Guardians was 57 million dollars more expensive.

However you break it down, Suicide Squad was more successful than Guardians (and arguably a better movie, too.)

The movie equivalent would make 0 sense in any way on the first viewing. You would have to watch it ten times and keep a flowchart of it to make sense, just for one part of the plot.
To be Dwarf Fortress, NOBODY would understand it on the first viewing. It would be a masterpiece that anyone who claims they understood it going in blind would be lying.

Eraserhead is Dwarf Fortress. Enemy is Dwarf Fortress.

No cape movie has ever been Dwarf Fortress, and the only candidates would be Dr. Strange based heavily on Kirby's work (which isn't what we're getting) or Animal Man.
