Lots of people have different hair colors as children than they do as adults, and the color of hair is determined by production of two types of pigment on a per-hair basis. The balance between these pigments is what gives your hair its particular shade. Blonde people and grey-haired people are simply different levels of (almost exclusively) the same single pigment, for example; so just as your hair will eventually start to grey, it can change color during different portions of your life, not only in response to environmental factors but according to genetic cues. Some kids start out blond, others start out with dark black hair, but pretty much everybody ends up grey in the end.
