I always found this kind of... interesting. Anyway, there were various episodes with Peg and Pete tried to improve their relationship.

It's not a stretch to think that Peg has something going on with Goofy there. Also, she's not in the movies when the kids are older, and we don't see Pistol. Maybe all of this caused a divorce and she took Pistol with her? By the way, for some reason Pete looks more friendly towards Goofy in these movies.

This is one thing that always got me confused. This image here is from a story that Goofy's telling to Max, so characters from the show were being used for the story characters.
Why chose Pete's wife to play the damsel that falls for the sheriff, if the sheriff is Goofy? The writers liked too much that pairing or something. Why din't make her Goofy's wife instead?

They did go to high-school together this was mentioned on Goofy Trooper. When Goofy moves back to Spoonerville (sp) Peg is all over him the very first episode. Another reason why Horace and Clarabelle can have a deeper and more meaningful relationship is Disney does not care as much about them so they have less restrictions on what can be done to them.

Think of them as the Mighty and Ray of Disney. They both originated in the original material, games for Mighty and Ray and shorts for Horace and Clarabelle, but they don't get used as often any more. Most people wouldn't be able to name them compared to the more popular characters, Sonic/Mickey, so the suits don't really care as much.
