>>86245924Thank you! I've been thinking of a few possible arcs in which she befriends and takes care of a few kids in town.
>>86243236Most of the first ones are pretty spot on! Though, she keeps the gloves on because she thinks that it "humanizes" her more, making her bony fingers more approachable, as it were. However, it sounds kind of mean, but I've been thinking of her death being fairly meaningless. Right now, I'm thinking it was the result of a random home invasion that went wrong.
This also takes place in the "real world," in a small town in the northeast. As far as for why she exists, I'm going to try not to sound ridiculous here: I think there are really only two kinds of "magic" that I think make for proper storytelling. One is general magic, where it is available, known, and limited by very specific rules that cannot be broken- breaking one of these rules would feel cheap and ruin immersion. The other kind is a miracle. They occur for unknown reasons, are highly specific, are usually strongly thematic or moral, and most importantly, can only happen once, usually towards the beginning of the story so it cannot be a deus ex machina. I want this to be the case for Vivian's existence. She gave life to her garden, and miraculously, it gave some back. It's why she can't travel more than a few miles away from her place before collapsing.
And please, call me out if any of this sounds ridiculous or like straight bullshit. I have a hard time appraising my own stuff because I get wrapped up in it, so I need someone to shake me out of something if it's not a good idea.
