But somewhere among the shit I can see things that got carried in from Ostrander's SS that I love. Flag being an abrasive dumbass who pushes people too hard and only realizes it when it's too late, Waller being ruthlessly standoffish in the face of impossible odds, June being torn apart and scared but determined to soldier on, Boomerang being, well, Boomerang... It actually feels like at some point they were trying to do a proper SS movie and work in all these great character traits that I really enjoyed. But I feel like something went horribly, horribly wrong and that movie died in the editing room, got eviscerated and then clumsily stitched back together. And for every good character moment there's one or the lack of one that sours everything else up, like
Waller shooting her staff. So I can't say I liked it, but at least it wasn't two and a half hours of sheer crushing despair.
