>>85469885He was a little darker, less blindly optimistic Superman than we were used to, mainly because JL came right after the Superman:TAS finale where he was brainwashed and turned loose against the very people he'd sworn to protect. He recovered, but things were never quite the same; the aftershocks of that went even as far as Prof. Hamilton joining Cadmus in JLU over what he saw as a betrayal. (Kinda creepy that he does it to build his own Supergirl, though. What the hell did Kara ever do to you, Emil?)
Bats giving him shit for it in that episode with the New Gods and Brainiac was a dick move, though. Fuck you, Bruce, you're not always right.
I also disliked Clash mostly because the fight between Supes and Capt. Marvel, especially the latter quitting and disappearing for the rest of the series, felt kinda like a symbolic middle finger to the old, sillier days of superheroes (bit hypocritical stacked next to stuff like The Great Brain Robbery and The Greatest Story Never Told). Luthor trolling the hell out of Supes for an entire season was aces, though.
