Not so much sampling error, but that them getting together at all is unlikely for a lot of reasons ingrained, societal reasons. If I recall, it's all the way at the bottom of the interracial relationship population. So the ones that do get together are the realest of the real deals. It's probably not for nothing the couple that ended up being the one to get the anti-miscegenation laws federally prohibited was a white man and a black woman (although maybe also because it doesn't rile the tards up as much as the other way around).
Still, charging them with lines like "cohabiting as man and wife, against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth" mean it wasn't all that unfrowned upon neither.
