However, a couple made it to paper under weird circumstances. During middle school we were offered Japanese as a language credit, and me being the little weeblet I was, decided to go for it. The textbooks we used were designed so that each vocabulary word was also accompanied by a simple illustration of the word, as a mnemonic device I guess. Anyway, these illustrations, though simple, had a lot of personality and were always rendered humorously. It became popular to doodle over the illustrations, making weird/funny additions to them and whatnot. Eventually some of these doodles evolved into alter-ego OC's for my friends at school, which I'd draw as doofy little slapstick comics in the margins of my notebook.
Most of the designs were lazy as shit though. Imagine bodies of pic related, but with eyes more like those on Eskimo Bob
