>>84106184The problem with Erica Hendersons Squirrel Girl art isnt that we or others dont think she looks cute, its that its just objectively fucking BAD.
The anatomy is attrocious, fingers missing digits, noses being bent and mangled in strange angles, puffy DSL that look like they were injected with silicone, surprising lack of knowledge about how breasts work with physics considering its drawn by a woman, bland flat color choices, bland linework, ininteresting angles and poses, complete and total disregard for the concept of Perspective, and near non existent environments (something that can totally work if you're a good character artist, she clearly isnt in this case).
Its not a matter of not liking the art because the CHARACTER isnt attractive, its not liking the art because the ART isnt attractive.
Someone who creates art should always strive to create something that looks good. And if what looks good happens to be ugly, then you've succeeded. You need an understanding of what you're doing before you can twist and bend rules. An ugly character, think Arseface, can be rendered beautifully. A character who canonically is beautiful, Wonder Woman, can also be rendered ugly by poor art.
tl;dr Erica Hendersons art in the squirrel girl book is god damn awful and the fact that she's being nominated for a FUCKING EISNER AWARD FOR IT is a disgrace.
