>>84085261 Luke explains to Rey that the Force originates from a massive tree that was found by two siblings, a boy and a girl, who both harnessed its powers. The boy was corrupted by the power, becoming the first Sith, killed the girl and left, but the girl's spirit survived by becoming one with the Force and created the Jedi Order. The girl's spirit has been reincarnating throughout the centuries in male and female form, and each incarnation is the chosen one meant to bring balance to the Force. Anakin was one, but ended up being corrupted, and now Rey is the new incarnation.
While not stated, people are now theorizing the boy went on to become Snoke.

He'll probably come very close to pulling Rey to the Dark Side, but when it's eventually revealed that Finn is force-sensitive, they'll force-bond their way to friendship and giant-exploding-space-fortress times.
I still think it'd have been better to leave Luke unseen, and cut TFA off at the "We have the map, now we can finally search for Luke!" setup for the next movie. Then we could, say, pick up a year later when Finn comes out of his coma, and has to go searching for Rey, who went missing looking for Luke, following the trail she left behind in the galaxy.
But hey, I'm not directing the movies so what the fuck do I even know. Maybe by the time the new trilogy's finished it'll all work out in the end.

>>84088269 Maybe that's why midichlorians never bothered me - I had always assumed it was a talent you had to be somewhat born with, because of Leia having small flashes of "force sensitivity" and her whole family apparently sharing that ability.
To me it always seemed like it was something genetic, or at least an in-born trait. I never thought that anyone could become a jedi if they just tried hard enough, it always seemed exclusive and tied to biology.
When I heard the midichlorian thing in Phantom Menace I just went "oh okay so that's what it is" and moved on. I was actually surprised to learn that it upset people so much.
You can tell though that Disney and JJ hated the idea, so I would expect to see more people like Finn and Maz going forward. The in-universe explanation will be that these people have high midichlorian counts, but for the sake of the movies it will be presented as if anybody can awaken it if they have the right mindset. Playing it safe on both sides.
Even Han showed a little force talent in TFA if you caught it. He shoots a stormtrooper that's completely in his blind spot behind him on pure instinct, then acts surprised at himself like "why/how did I do that?" Not to mention the crazy shit he pulled off with the Falcon landing on Starkiller must have taken some force mojo.

Hey guys, does anyone here wanna read the prologue to my star wars fic?
The story itself is going to set up the characters introduced here as the two big bad guys, with the end of the second act be the main character stealing the Humble Herring from the shadowport.
This is a first draft, and I would appreciate any kind of help. Ive posted work of mine here before, but this is the first thing I liked enough to want to refine into a definitive part of the finished product. I guess we have to write a few Journal of the Whills before we can write any ANHs
All criticism is welcome. If you think its shit, tell my why you think its shit. If you really like an aspect of it, let me know what it was and why you liked it, either as a comment on the doc itself or in a (you) here.

I know this is sort of a vague statement, but does anybody like the prequels for the very reason that people say they don't like them? I like the subdued acting, I don't think it's flat. It reminds me of a Victorian costume drama. I like all the political intrigue. It reminds me of Shakespeare's plays like Henry the IV and the Greek Tragedies like Oedipus. I don't mind all the CGI. Sin City had just as much CGI as the prequels did and it doesn't get half the flack, on the contrary, it was critically praised. Don't get me wrong, I like the originals too, and for what it is they are probably more accessible movies. But I don't thin that their as bad as the media claims.

I know /swco/ has more of the estranged fans of Star Wars, but I never thought I'd find I place with such shit opinions. Nobody likes clones. Star Wars is all about the Jedi/Sith, and not mango clones trying so hard to be different. It really boils down to two groups of people: the ones who played with lightsabers as a kid (the good fans), and the ones who played with blasters/starships/droids as a kid (probably most of /swco/ and the "others"). I wish they hadn't tried so hard to make clones seem like "people", especially when they never could be. That's the reason why most of you think they're "cool" now. Most of the episodes of TCW with clones in them were filler anyways. But worse than clone fans are the Empire/First Order fans. I can't think of a more niche group of fans that actually like the Empire. Coupled with people that unironically like Sidious, but still call him "Sheev", those are probably some of the most worse/autistic fans out there. I'll end with this webm of some clone (who's name I can't remember) getting blown the fuck out by some droids.

Not sure I buy that one, though it would make Bloodline's revelation connect well and would add some "forgivability" and nuance to the massacre.

Ben already has one foot in the dark side because of Snoke and finding out that Vader is his grandfather makes him feel more betrayed by his family and yet also relieved that he has an excuse for the darkness he feels now. Some students turn on him and it's the snapping point that leads him to exacerbate the situation far beyond necessary and turn it into a bloodbath.

>>84109917 Maybe, but doesn't Bloodline kind of hint that something is already going down with Luke and Ben before the truth about Vader is revealed? She mentions that she's had radio silence from them for a while now.

>>84106578 >I know this is sort of a vague statement, but does anybody like the prequels for the very reason that people say they don't like them? Iv'e been thinking about the prequels a lot lately. They are so frustrating because they get SO MUCH RIGHT. Sheev is great. Their take on the Jedi (while jarring at the time and weirdly antiseptic) is pretty cool. Qui-Gon is cool. Obi-Wan is cool. Christopher Lee! Some great action sequences!
Why are these movies so bad then?
...it's because the elements that don't work are so essential, and they work SO BADLY that they actually sink the movie.
Jar Jar Binks. Young Anakin's acting. (And that's totally down to George's weird ideas of what constitutes a good take -- which we know because he uses the same bad takes for other actors too.) Anakin and Padme's romance -- all of it.
The finale of The Phantom Menace intercut between 4 different action sequences:
- Anakin on a starfighter
- Padme in the palace
- The Gungans fight on a golf course
- Dueling Darth Maul
Of those... only one is good. Anakin's starfighter stuff is... Georged. The palace action is pretty anemic, really only meant for intercutting. And the Gungan/Droid fight was awful... the culmination of multiple creative decisions that came together to suck. (Apparently he shot actual footage of those green rolling manicured hills they fight on... but they're so perfect it looks like CGI.)
And that's one of the less offensively bad parts of the prequels! 8 out of 10 elements onscreen are working, but the movie is FOCUSED ON the elements that don't work.

I hope they cut her entirely and it's just implied that she stayed at her planet to rebuild her castle. Maybe show it in a comic or something. Maz and her Castle are the kind of location that works best as a sort of
>"we've established this place exists and all sorts of crazy random character comes through here a lot - feel free to use it in comics or video games or whatever you need it for, but we're never seeing it again" She really has nothing to offer to the characters going forward that Luke couldn't do better, and her main connection was to the now-deceased Han Solo
Basically no more Maz. No mas maz. I hope.

Man, when you hear that there's a new character who was Anakin's apprentice during the war who is also a teenage (alien) girl and who didn't show up or get mentioned at all in RotS, you'd immediately assume she'd be awful. But somehow they manged to make it work! Almost.

I figured the reason she was able to do the mind trick and other things later was because it's established early on that she's heard stories and legends about the Jedi, or Luke at least
She's probably heard drunk captains saying shit like
>"Yeah I heard they can control your brain" >"Oh yeah? well I heard they can move things with their minds!" >"Nah that's bullshit they don't exist, and if they did they've been dead for a long time" Rey could have easily overheard stories of the Jedi like that, so when she figures out she can use the force she just goes "why don't I try that thing I heard about"
Of course they didn't imply or set that up in the movie at all so fuck it, she's just a prodigy or previously trained and mind-wiped

>>84110709 I used to think the force bond idea was something the writers would never think of but the more I think about it, the more I can see them doing it. Simply because it's an easy way to serve the plot. Want Rey to learn more about Kylo without flashbacks and without other characters having to give exposition? Force bond. Want Kylo to find Rey and Luke without a long explanation scene? Force bond. Want a quick way to get Rey to the point of not wanting to kill Kylo like those rumors suggest? Force bond. Sounds like the perfect lazy solution.
