>>83883403>>83883497I'm not trying to make it sound all or nothing, but can't you see how frustrating it might be for an artist who has only a handful of followers to be making like, $8 a month, off of 5 supporters, a year into their comic, or whatever?
Obviously, there's no magic switch, or magic time where all of a sudden, you put up a patreon and suddenly you're making money. I seriously can't even believe I have to explain that.
A lot of people go into the mind set when they set up a patreon that they have dozens, or maybe even a couple hundred followers. So, someone--ANYone--of those will support them. And then they get frustrated when money isn't rolling in.
Frankly, I think a person should explore all avenues of possible income. Personally, I'd rather be sitting at a table at a convention selling books for $10 a piece where I can directly interact with people, and whatnot and sort of have fun with it, than rely on the "maybe-kinda-sorta today will be the day my first Patreon sends me a dollar."
I guess in the end, I'm just saying people really shouldn't expect anything from Patreon for (likely) years until they really get going, and have an established rhythm, schedule, fanbase, etc.
Setting up a Patreon and then begging for money when you have nothing, or little to show comes off as seeming like some sort of desperation gambit to almost everyone that I've ever seen talk about how you should handle a Patreon for webcomics.
