>>83405308Technically, Kuchisake-onna urban legends fucking blew up in Japan on the internet and caused it to reenter pop culture after the 70's scare and the slasher flicks.
So the one on the right there does actually count. Or it would if it was a western work.
For those that don't know its an old ghost story from Japanese mythology, which is Greek tier in terms of having fucking awesome monsters. Any malevolent female ghost is an onna, like The Grudge or The Ring or any of the Fatal Frame games.
Kuchisake="split mouth", the original story is a samurai cut his wife's mouth open (why varies from version to version, usually because he's an asshole) so her ghost wanders around with fan or in the modern versions of the story a face mask on (which a lot of people do in Asian countries when sick, to be polite and not spread germs everywhere). She asks random people, in some versions just children, if she's pretty. Say yes and she rips the mask off showing she's a corpse with a hanging mouth and asks again, at which point she'll fucking shank the shit out of you with superman-tier strength and no way you can fight back because she's a fucking ghost. The only way to not get killed is to give a noncommittal response like "you look average" or "you look like everyone else" both times at which point she just kind of shrugs and walks away. In some versions you can also offer her candy or something like lip balm instead of answering and she'll also leave you alone.
Rant over, hopefully someone western makes some good Japanese myth comics soon because all we can discuss on /co/ is samurai through Usagi Yojimbo and that kind of sucks.
