Husband of one of the lesser known people on the Channel Awesome roster here. Wife went to the infamous tapings of the 1st Anniversary Team Brawl and met everyone. It was super awkward.
Apparently everyone was either on the spectrum or not interested in being social. Or unable to be social. Handsome Tom was the only person who could hold a conversation, aka he was the only other well-adjusted human being. Even Lindsay 'wasn't there to make friends', which is sad because my wife was a fan of her videos and had wanted to meet her. (note: that is not an actual quote)
Anyway when TGWTG bit off more than it could chew and started signing its emails as:>Robert Walker aka The Other Guy>Executive Producer Channel Awesome
...you could tell they were in the process of trying to look legit and were ripe for a big failure. Ah well, such is the Internet. They had a viral hit with Nostalgia Critic and cross-promotion with AVGN but everyone was slowly learning that you only have so many good ideas for videos inside you. Only so many stories to tell. Then there's all this pressure to pump out consistent videos and get that Blip money (which fluctuated and then died) and suddenly it's no longer fun.
That happened to every single one of the original roster on TGWTG and the smart ones stopped making content and got on with their lives. The dumb / addicted ones kept making crap until they crashed and burned (Spoony) or a tiny percentage continue to make garbage to this very day.
Then the game changed with LetsPlays and Channel Awesome was dead in the water. In 2009 it was dead in the water but nobody on the inside could see it.
