Like or hate any of the characters who have been Robin from Dick to Damian, it's nonetheless a big part of the Batman ethos (and was there almost from the first issue) and you're basically putting a guy in charge who sticks his fingers in his ears and says, "NO IT DID NOT HAPPEN." This is a philosophical problem, but in the NV he also wanted to create a universe where nothing meta human really existed, no Croc or Clayface for example, and no Poison Ivy (unless she was made more in the line of Crane). And, of course, he lived in his own universe, no other heroes existed, anywhere on the planet.
