Those Gamorrean guards that work at Jabba's palace. The Muppet Babies used them for a couple of gags and I don't know what it is about them but I freaked out. Probably just wasn't expecting it from a Muppets cartoon.

To me, many episodes were legit scary. You know why? Because nearly none of the villains were typical spooky ooky Halloween monsters. They were all something quite bizarre on their own. And very few of them were typical evil characters, usually having some sort of weird motivation as to why they cause calamity. The show is intentionally unsettling as accidentally succeeds as standard horror, at least for some kids.

If anyone remembers, Pucca had this one episode where the main characters had to fight a ghost who fell in love with Garu, the episode itself wasn't scary, but when i watched for the first time i was home alone in a otherwise silent room, when the episode ended a screamer popped out, the screamer itself wasn't that scary either but it felt so out of place i still crapped my pants, had to turn on some lights and walk around for a while because i kept feeling nervous all the time, i remember skipping re runs for a while because even though i knew the screamer was there anxiety took the worst out of me

Strangely enough, i was looking for an image of the actual thing but when i searched for an online episode i couldn't find it, i guess it was cut out or some shit, i dunno

Mmmmkay, so let me break this down. When I was a small child, I'm pretty sure I was attacked by a dog or cat during the night. The reason I say this is because I had a nightmare of something I couldn't possibly have had any experience with up to that point otherwise. I think it was so, because the nightmare I had was of a werewolf in my house. My bedroom was very close to our living room which got natural light from outside thanks to a large set of windows, but the hallway leading into room was narrow and pitch-dark. I can't even describe the overall look of the creature since it wasn't the point my mind focused on. I just remember that it had that canine-like face and was bipedal. The thing that burned into my mind's eye was its eyes. They were iridescent red. Not flaming or burning, or even bright. They simply were. Like when you flash a beam of light onto a dog or cat late at night, hence my theory. And it wasn't that it was looking at me, it was as if it were looking through me, as if killing me was something it was going to do, but wasn't even on the high end of its priorities.

It made me feel physically sick the night I dreamed, and ever since then those kinds of eyes terrify me. I'm going to post examples of those exact kinds of eyes I've seen in all kinds of media, /co/ related and otherwise. I might cross-post this in /x/, they might have some more things that match what I'm talking about that I've never seen before.

To start: one of the most recognizable sets of these eyes I can think of - the Terminator endoskeleton. The trick here is to only think of the times it was made using practical effects. When they used CG in T3 and later, it was able to organically focus on what it was looking at which removed the unnatural scariness of it.

Next: A few frames from 1993's Storm of the Century. Honestly, were it not for this specific split-second sequence, I would have utterly forgotten about this movie. In typical Stephen King movie style of this era, the beginning and middle sections of this film were great, with the third act being a letdown of cringe-worthy status. But that one scene brought me to tears all those years ago.

I don't know if anyone remembers this, but there was this one Mandy Intro where she said something like "No matter how bad it looks, it can always get worse"

And then for a single frame there was a jumpscare of Mandy as some kind of horrific monster.

I haven't seen it in years and I never see anyone talking about it. If anyone has it, it'd be nice to see it again and get some closure because I know it can't be as scary as I remember.

I watched Tales From the Crypt, as a kid, so not a whole lot really scared me, /co/ wise but I did find some things disturbing, like the devil scene from All Dogs Go to Heaven. The stilted, winged dog demon was fucked up.

As said before >>81930696 it was fun. Slappy was the best part. I do suggest the TV show if you want something more in tone with the books. Was creepier and more atmospheric as well as not trying to shove as many monsters as they could with only a few getting enough screentime.

I really wish the movie was an anthology film akin to Creepshow or Trick r' Treat for kids.

Man, that robot torture chamber in Jabba's palace freaked me out bad. Most of all cause I thought the one who was getting hot irons pressed on his feet was some regular guy who they put half into a box and then spun to make him dizzy and THEN burnt his feet on top of that. Actually, I loved the THX sounds as a kid.
Same for the DTS LaserDisc opening.
I still do to this very day.

I had the THX opening on some of my old LaserDiscs of the Disney movies and the Star Wars Trilogy Definitive Collection.

As for the DTS one, I was a teenager but I got them from bootleg DVDs imported from China in a local store over where I live.

I like these bootlegs better sometimes because of superior DTS sound when most DVDs only had Dolby Digital.

I didn't hate it. It wasn't as soulless and phoned-in as most of the nostalgia-driven cashgrabs these days. Slappy was pretty great and a lot of the monsters looked great and were done with practical effects. The kids were alright and not as annoying as I thought they'd be. I'll never not love Jack Black and although the voice he chose to do to play RL Stine was...odd, he was pretty good in it as well. The end credits homage to the classic covers is fucking incredible and makes the whole thing worth watching.

Give it a watch. The only truly disappointing things about it was some of the CGI was distractingly piss poor and the fact that they never worked the TV show's theme song into the score.

When I was little, another kid came over to my house and my dad put on Adventures of Mark Twain. The other kid's dad came to pick him up during the Mysterious Stranger part (we were both too young to really understand what was going on - we just wanted to see OMG CARTOONS!!!) and he became extremely angry with my dad and started berating him and telling him he shouldn't have shown his child something so horrible. Also, I was probably too young to have been reading these but somehow I got my sticky little kid hands on a few copies of the Tales from the Crypt comics and one story in particular spooked me right out. I think it was from pic related but it was about a guy who's wife died and he does some voodoo ritual to bring her back to life and she comes back but quickly deteriorates as the story goes on, she's totally zombified and he doesn't want her around anymore so he tries all these different ways to kill her but they just end up making her more grotesque.

It was kind of a mix between Pet Semetary and the main character's zombie friend from American Werewolf in London.

It bothers me but not for the same reasons that most people get bothered. Scholastic owns the rights to the Stephen Gammell illustrations that accompany the book, so the re-release by Harper Collins couldn't use those illustrations even if they wanted to. The illustrations aren't poorly done on their own--they're the same guy who did the Series of Unfortunate Events illustrations--but they do not match the style and tone of the stories at all. The 'new' illustrations would be at home with the stories in books like Short & Shivery, where the stories are fleshed out and rich and more like folklore so the illustrations are meant as accompaniments, but Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark are quicker, more verbal, less detailed, meant to be read out loud, so the images should not be as detail-oriented.

The scene where Triton confronts Ariel and destroys all her treasures used to terrify me. It still makes me feel a bit unsettled. The switch in the lighting, making it dark with intense yellows and oranges, how scared Ariel is... damn, Disney.
