They want to find a way to use the tech to get the friendly AI (the pink haired girl) out of the computer so they can shut it for good.
So they enter the virtual world to fight the computer AI and stop his plans to fuck the real world, and protect the girl AI.
If they die under certain conditions in that world, they die for real.
The quantum computer has tech that can revert time, which they use to erase evidence of the activities of the computer AI.
The problem is that the more they use that, the AI becomes smarter and more powerful.
