I had a few friends that were a few years older than me, which really doesn't seem like much when you just look at the numbers, but there was still a maturity gap. Frequently I would tell them, "Don't do X. I did X and it was a bad idea," and then they'd do it anyway and get the same results as me. I also said, "Be sure to make back-up plans, because what you're aspiring for probably won't happen," because that's happened to me multiple times. They did not listen. I assume that's what parenthood is going to be like.
One of them was exceptionally stupid, though (I'm talking "20-year-old with a pizza delivery job engaged to a girl he met in high school with a ring he bought via college loan funds who is jobless and controlling and intentionally getting her pregnant" stupid), so I wasn't really surprised he listened.
