Might be the wrong term, but this is a character the writer just introduced to kill him off in order to take something away from the character in order to kickstart character development.
But the reader is not actually engaged at this point which is less obvious to her than she thought it would be. This could either lead to her taking the universe seriously, or make her try to outsmart the writer.
Given the title, probably the latter.

I really dislike it. Actually, i dislike the direction they were taking deadpool already. I honestly prefered him to be the cynical horrible person, being driven insane with his humor only being a way of coping with the extreme pain and suffering he was going trough all the time. Why are there not more serious well made comics.

It feels like the writers force humor into them like hollywood forces love stories into movies. But then again, i dont read EVERY comic, so i might just be missing out on a bunch of good ones.

That would be the craziest twist in a comic I'd seen in awhile. It's been mentioned in this thread, but I really hope they play on the fact that keeping an upbeat attitude keeps her comic more fun and minimizes her suffering. Imagine having to be constantly happy and if you get sad or even worry about your situation than the universe can turn on you and create drama by making you suffer.

There has always been manga that looks good and some that sucks.
Von land Saga is awesome and the artist really invests in the art, but Berserk has had that for decades.
Certainly there are new heights being reached with improved methods and digital support, but it's not like there isn't still 60% absolute crap, 35% okay stuff and 5% the absolute madmen.
In the latter category I count Berserk, Otoyomegatari, Vinland Saga and Green Blood. Billy Bat looks awesome but is not as ambitious in terms of detail and effort per panel in my mind.k

The point is there should be variety. Marvel has a lot of problems and one of them is over exposing that's for sure, but give credit were its due. This issue in particular had great art, (especially when you compare it to that God awful prequel chapter that came before it.

Also, and I'm not certain but I got a gut feeling, I feel Gurihiru has either good luck at picking worthwhile comics or takes the quality into consideration before committing to a project. That last part is just guessing but I'm too busy to research and would rather the talents past work going into the future.

That's not how the movie rights work. If Marvel were to make a new X-character in an X-book, then Fox gets access to that character. It doesn't matter if she was made before or after the rights were sold.

It's like how in the Deadpool movie they couldn't use Bob from Hydra, so they cheated and had a guy they called Bob with no relation to the character... officially anyways. So Gwenpool would have no official relation to the Deadpool series even though fans know she was created from his popularity.

It would be like if Marvel added 'e' to the end of new Mutants, calling them Mutante's and creating books and characters from them. They would own the Mutante franchise and the Xe-men franchise but not the originals.

Probably sometime after Inhumans, even were they to make a movie for her it would be long after their big picture stuff which I imagine is basically just Phase 3. I'm guessing they'll stop doing cosmic level villains for a while so the audience can get a nice big breather period and do smaller characters and stories, like Ants I guess.

She has one issue. We don't have the sales for it and there is no good reason to assume that this be character will somehow be massively profitable while hundreds of others are already gone and forgotten. If they're going to make movies, they're going to go for the characters who have more established than a name, a look, and a concept. Especially when the concept is niche and probably would be far from popular with the general public.

This was much easier to work with for Marvel since both of them started just as powered people in Avengers book that than got retconned into mutants so there was more space to work with them. I think they are trying to do same with GP by not connecting her directly with Spidey or Deadpool property, however personally I don't feel she is a movie material, maybe a game easter egg or cartoon cameo appearance within next five or so years.

Their first appearance was as reluctant members of Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. After that they quickly reformed and joined the Avengers, being more tied into them than the X-Men despite always being mutants.

I'm a bit of a normie when it comes to comics, but if I were to guess, Marvel probably requested her appearance to help promote the diverse new Marvel image or some shit.

Considering it's Hastings writing it, I'm at least expecting there won't be any forced gender/strawman bullshit. If anything he might make fun of it a bit, but my biggest hope is that he makes her legitimately interesting just to prove he can outdo the original writers at developing their own character.

All the promo stuff paints her as a hero but if she's a Merc then working for MODOK is a good way of showing that she's in it for the money, or glory. I don#'t want her to be a pure good guy, there are way to many of those.
