>>81730703Why would he? Cartoonists/webcomic artists have a goal of consistency over improvement. If his style is sufficient to get out a decent-not-great comic day after day - that's his goal. Once his art hits an acceptable level, he doesn't make more money by improving it, and arguably makes his life harder.
Look at the webcomic artists that make a living off of it - when was the last time you saw major artistic improvement in PVP, Something Positive, or Sluggy Freelance? Some artists developed a style that didn't require improvement (Dinosaur Comics, Diesel Sweeties, C&H, SMBC, 8-Bit Theater), and some were decent artists before they started (Girl Genius, Dr. McNinja, Dresden Codak). But improvement, by and large, isn't usually a thing in webcomics. Willis did it largely because Roomies/It's Walky looked like ass to begin with. Sam and Fuzzy had the same issue, but leveled up and off pretty quickly. Penny Arcade has actually (arguably) gone BACKWARDS in quality, presumably because their money doesn't come from the comics anymore.
Of the 'pro' webcomics out there, the only ones I can think of where they've consistently improved artwork is Order of the Stick, and XKCD. Both of them developed a specific style, and then pushed those styles to the absolute limits. But they're really exceptions rather than the rule.
