Here's the so-called leaks for Suicide Squad

to Belle Reve. Harley Quinn is the last of Waller's list to be captured, after the Joker ditches her during a chase with Batman (which opens the movie, by the way).

They all accept the job, get their tracking bombs implanted on their necks, and meet their support team, the Bravo 17 Navy Seal team led by Scott Eastwood's character, Tom Tresser. Their first mission is to retrieve some stolen Kryptonian technology from the Battle of Metropolis from weapons dealers. Katana joins the team as Flagg's bodyguard.

Meanwhile, Waller employs Flagg's girlfriend, June Moon, an archaeologist, to investigate strange occurances that Waller believes might be connected to extraterrestrial activity on Earth. It leads her to ancient tombs, where she awakens and is possessed by the Enchantress, experience a string of SPOOPY STUFF before becoming a full-blown witch.

While June is going evil, the Squad "graduates" to official sanctions after their succesful test run and goes on a bunch of mission, leading up to retrieving chemical weapons acquired by the Joker. There's a big shootout at the Joker's nightclub (he's much more of a mobster in this) which leads to Joker finding out Harley Quinn is with the Squad. He then decides to get her back.

Intercut with this we have flashbacks of Harley meeting Joker, kidnapping and torturing her, turning her into his girl, them doing crimes together, and ultimately the murder of Jason Todd, which sours Harley on the Joker big time.

Here's what has been leaked about Suicide Squad

Task-Force X is created in the 1940's, to use war criminals in suicide missions in exchange for reduced sentences. The team is led by Rick Flagg, who dies along with his men in a mission gone wrong, and the project is buried.

As a life-long Superfag, I love that he's being treated as something frightening. Because he is. It's a nice change of pace. They've made him the anchor of the universe in that people are always wondering what he can/should/might do, because it has the power change the world in pretty much any way imaginable. Eventually, Enchantress goes haywire and besieges Midway City with magic stuff. The Squad is sent on a mission to bring her back, and the Joker and his gang also go there to get Harley back.

It becomes kind of a Escape From New York-esque thing with the Squad downed, transversing the city by foot while evading monsters and Joker and his thugs, trying to reach the subway station where Enchantress is nested. Along the way we find out her plan is to find a suitable host for her "brother", the Incubus, and destroy the world.

Slipknot gets killed by Waller when he tries to defect, Diablo sacrifices himself to save the team from monsters, Katana turns out to be Batman's spy, and Waller eventually orders the group to stand down, but they decide to go forward and be the heroes for once. Harley gets a chance to get back with the Joker, but doesn't take it because "it's not funny anymore", and ultimately the Joker becomes Incubus' host and begins wreaking shit.

Deadshot, Harley, Boomerang, Croc and Katana hold off the Joker while Rick sacrifices together to kill June with Katana's soultaker, which severs the Incubus' tether to the Joker and exorcises it and the other monsters in Midway.

Deadshot fakes his death and goes back to his daughter, while Harley and Croc let themselves be recaptured. Boomerang tries to run, but Waller finds him and forces him back. She decides to add Joker and Tattooed Man to the roster, but Batman visits her and tells her no way. They have the "rich boy" exchange, and Waller reveals that she knows Katana is Batman's spy, but is willing to let him have a liaison on the team. The Joker gets sent back to Arkham, and Tresser is put in charge of the Squad with Boomer, Harley, Croc and Tattooed Man.

Random stuff

Croc is an old associate of the Joker and is mostly comic relief.

You get both Abel Tarrant and Mark Richards as the Tattooed Men, Tarrant is a dick and dies, Richards (played by Common) is less of a dick and lives.

Harley/Deadshot is teased, but doesn't go beyond a kiss.

Katana barely speaks.[/spoiler

Slipknot is lame.

El Diablo is cool.

The Joker flip flops between genuinely good and edgy as fuck.

Enchantress and Incubus are alright and do create some spooky stuff.

Boomerang - He only uses the boomeranges at about three times, but it's great every time. Also, he adamantly refuses to actually risk is neck to save the world in the end like the others genuinely want to do because they're not that bad deep down, he only agrees because Deadshot convinces him it'd be a giant middle finger to Waller.

You have to look at it as 100% of the DCCU so far has been a hopeless fucking mess. The get no chances.
The MCU has turned out one meh movie and only one fully unwatchable one. They get a little slack. Once WB earns my faith, they'll get it. Until then there's no reason not to expect another gritty shitfest.

100% of the DCCU has been directed by Snyder. How do you know the suits fucked it up for him? In that one sad interview he said he made the movie as good as he possibly could. As far as I can tell that was Snyder's vision that made it to screen and no one else's.

I had reservations about Harley's actress but she seems to be pretty good. She reminds me of injustice Harley a bit with the kind of sweet but overbearing and annoying person routine. Batman retired in the movie. He had given up on the good fight because nothing changed and he lost loved ones. Then the alien invasion happened and he felt powerless again seeing his coworkers die. People hinge on the scene for the piss jar but it's a really well set up joke and moment.

Snyder isn't directing Squad. Ayer is not Snyder. Ayer is a good director.

Batman has ties with Suicide Squad and his role in this movie will most likely equate to a scene in the flashback, and a standoff with Waller.

Harley, and Deadshot's flashbacks actually relate to the character in a meaningful way unlike the Knightmare scenes that are meant to mirror the Black Freighter scenes from Watchmen with none of the charm.

Harley is someone he could certainly live without but she feeds his ego, she's a good scapegoat, and she basically lets him do whatever he wants. It's something he likes and it makes her useful. She's essentially a trusted tool that he's hinged on from time to time but can also live without.

It is a fucking lazy metaphor with zero fucking purpose other than to make a reference to a better done film.

Snyder should stick to adaptations because it seems he keeps thinking references to other good film count as proper story and character development.

Even Tarentino with all his references to every other movie in existence in every other fucking scene at least can construct a better overall narrative and characters.

The whole title conflict between Batman and Super is soooo fucking forced. Superman shouting their mother's name is almost comical. My friend who saw it with me, thankfully through his getting free tickets, was aghast and said "Are you fucking kidding me?!". We were almost laughing at how bad the fucking writing was. Maybe it the reveal more subdued in dialogue and the whole WWE level wrassling match wasn't so testosterone filled and loud, it might have been a nicely done twist / way to stop the fight.

Never mind Lois uses her magic teleporting powers like she had in the last film to arrive just in time for the dramatic scene from across town.

What a piece of shit that was for what was supposedly the climax of the title fight.

The flashback showing Thomas' last words being Martha emphasizes and establishes the massive effect of Bruce's trauma that then triggers him during the fight and snaps him out of his bloodlust. The flashback makes it easier to make the connection for the audience in case you don't automatically realize it after two hours into the story.

Fuck. I wrote a paper comparing Batman and Hamlet in high school. That doesn't mean that forcing some Hamlet references into a Batman movie is necessary or really makes sense or isn't a huge fucking waste of time instead of just directly dealing with their characters and the story the movie is telling.

It's fucking ass backwards.

Shit. Maybe at least have some dialog from Affleck. The fight was so fucking pointless with very little emotional and character depth. Just look at this monologue from Bruce about confronting his old friend and compare it to, "Save MARTHA" "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!"

It really says something when Frank Miller's cheesy noir Batman dialogue, which I do love, is far far more complex than your movie.

That's why you have a World's Finest movie. Showing how crime and disasters Superman stops in Metropolis and around the world are very unlike the crime and problems Gotham has. Superman cannot do what Batman does just as much as Batman can't be Superman.

An intelligent writer and director who actually understand these characters could make a smart movie about these two meeting. Not just them trying to kill each other because "Superman blew up my building" and "Lex Luthor kidnapped my mom"

Right now there is no "fix" to the comic book market that I can see anymore that can realistically be done, as all of it would require either massive restructuring how the industry sees itself and operates or readers to all suddenly start flocking back to cape comics, which just isn't ever going to happen.

Right now Marvel and DC think "moving towards the future" in their businesses is reinventing characters looks, outfits, and personalities but this won't actually help.
The problem is one that can't be solved by comics writers at all, it's a business problem.

Even as more of a Batman fan, I really hate what they did to Superman in these movies. This movie focusing on Batman vs Superman seemed to completely forget that 'versus' shouldn't just be some WWE match, but a cinematic and philosophical contrast between their attitudes and entire worlds.

Snyder didn't just physically mush Gotham and Metropolis together by placing them across the bay, citing a handful of cherrypicked comics with that image.

He mushed Superman into Gotham and forgot what Superman was supposed to be shining up there in the Metropolis sky.

Of course I'm sure it's not him. Warners continues to be incapable of making DC films without forcing Batman and Joker into them. Just look at this Suicide Squad movie. The original Squad didn't have Joker and the book was created years before Harley Quinn was.

The general movie going audience needs black and white. They know Harley is CURAYZEE but having her be against killing children puts her in a good light, just like having her be a victim of Joker's torture instead of her original backstory, and the audience will side with her better, which is how the movie works. Honestly, I haven't read it or any New52 books in some time save for a few I tried. Namely Gotham Academy, Burnside Batgirl, and Prez. Oh and like an issue or two of Black Canary and We Are Robin. Yet I gave up because it just wasn't recognizable and they already were doing bullshit 90s crossover shit. Also, maybe if Batgirl was a Year One flashback and they didn't throw Oracle under the bus and make their one big disabled character run around on rooftops, I would have enjoyed it.

It may be a fun book, but the company has no idea what to do with the character's sudden popularity or who the character is.

It's not that Superman being a controversial figure is in itself a terrible idea, it was just executed horribly. He’s the most talked about character in the movie, the person Lex, Bruce, and Lois can’t stop fixating on. He’s seen as a hero by some and a menace by others, his true nature a mystery. And maybe it should have stayed ambigious. When the narrative deigns to give him actual focus, he’s depicted as little more than a sullen automaton who doesn’t seem to enjoy reporting, having a girlfriend, saving people, or existing in general. He’s a more morose and antisocial creature than the Dark Knight, who bears his baggage with a wry charisma that charms the viewer into forgetting that he’s plotting the murder of his opposite the entire time.

Snyder blitzes Clark and the audience with biblical imagery, cycles through various celebrities talking about the implications behind such a powerful figure in their midst, and is more concerned with what the idea of Superman represents than the man himself. As controversial as he is, Superman has very little actual presence in the movie and what few scenes he has do not endear him to the audience. You ultimately want Batman to triumph not because he is necessarily right to do so or that Superman might be a malevolent entity, but because the Man of Steel is just that boring and unlikable that you want to not miss him that much faster. Cavill, who has the looks and range to be the best movie version of Superman ever put on screen, fares far worse than Amy Adams' Lois Lane as the writers at least made some effort as far as her extraneous plotline was concerned.

There should be some contest here. It's almost as if the movie was made by Lex Luthor or someone who agrees with him about Superman. If there was an attempt to make you sympathize with Superman, it was fucking hollow and insipid. I really feel bad for Cavill. He could have been a good Superman. There is no good in this Superman. If there is, it was heavily concealed beneath mountains of bullshit. Just talking vaugely about hope and putting pictures of Jesus and making him fly away in a cross shape and rise from the grave doesn't make an audience think a hero is compassionate like Jesus. Have Superman speak those things and do those deeds. Don't just have a three minute montage of him saving people in three places around the glove in some video game slow-mo cut-scene with a bloom filter on and some aria playing in the background.

It makes a villains movie about an evil government plot to take down Superman seem like a very one sided good idea.

Nevermind you could have just done this with some powerful villain and people being paranoid about Superman. Not have Superman cause so much devastation and not stopping shit.

Fucking Jimmy Olsen gets shot in the head while others die around them and Supes doesn't show up until the split second before Lois dies.

Even fucking Superman Returns was better than that shit and they had some bullshit about him flying into space for years to find Kryupton.

Hell, a friend of a friend cosplayed as Harle form Chrono Cross. Think she used some kinda velvety material and it looked real nice.

Someone joked about porn earlier, but you don't have to make it look like some latex fetish shit. There are people in Hollywood hired to know material while designing costumes. It's an entire industry within the movie industry.

I've only seen fans at conventions doing shit. Well, aside from watching some shows like that makeup one on Syfy. Even I know there are a ton of options for making a comic accurate Harley outfit.

Thats the major issue with Snyder's Superman. He isn't likeable. Every scene he's in, hes brooding, grumpy, mopey, or acting threatening for no reason. The problem now comes to whether Warners will learn from this and actually fix things, or will they just brush it off and think the wrong things are broken?
