I have a feeling that's exactly what's happening with RWBY Chibi. Rumor has it that the animation team is switching over entirely to Maya for Volume 4, and it's possible that Chibi is a way of easing the animation team (parts of which have been suffering through Poser for the last two years) into the new workflow.

The lighting is also a big part of what makes that still look so shitty. Thing is, it's been well-known since day 1 that RWBY character models do not work well with any kind of lighting effects (pic related), a few brief shots in the White trailer aside. So why does RWBY Chibi (going by that single still, anyway) have lighting turned back on?

Here's the thing: while it's better than the alternative, the total lack of any lighting on the character models in RWBY is one of the major reasons why the show looks so cheap, particularly in scenes that aren't action-heavy. So I'm thinking that RT is going to use Chibi as a testbed for trying different approaches to lighting, to see if they can't alleviate some of that cheapness.

The curved handle makes it easier to hold and swing in the arcs that you'd need in order to make such a weapon even remotely viable.

Yeah, that's kind of the point; I didn't say they'd gotten it right yet. But a show with simpler models and more limited animation might give the animation team more time to experiment with different lighting...effects, I guess? I know fuck-all about 3D animation so I don't know how many options they've got in that regard, but I know the big Hollywood animation studios can make pretty much any style look good with lighting. Maybe RT has the budget and manpower to start moving in that direction this volume.

Honestly I don't know why people keep defaulting to overpowered, veer off cliff turns, with the ideas for Jaune's development.

The third volume and some bits of the first and second showcased what he is.

He rather not charge in chin first, but will when his friends ignore his warnings, he comes up with plans quickly and he is a reactive throw shit until it sticks style of adventurer.

How this always leads to indestructible, healing factor stuff where he acts like an Yang tier idiot is baffling.

I'd say Cardin, technically, is not too bad a leader as well. Leads by example and all that. Sure they left him to be mauled but some leaders would tell their men to prioritize their lives or the mission rather than the leader, himself. If you look at it like that it's not too bad.

Crescent rose consolidated the concept to allow for only two modes. It's scythe mode looks to be thicker for a stronger cut allowing for it to be the primary melee form, where as Qrow's uses sword for it's main mode and scythe only for situational kills.

Ruby probably thought the Scythe was cooler and wanted that to be her weapons main form. Of course if you notice Ruby takes the same blocking stance with Penny's sword that Qrow takes with Winter, so it seems like he taught her how to wield something similar to his sword mode as well, she just opted not to use it.

Crescent Rose's gun mode however seems entirely unnecessery because it can fire in Scythe mode with no apparant difference in shots, to the point where Ruby usually doesn't bother using it.

We have no idea how Penny's design works though. People assume her soul recognized that she was "dead" when she shut off and left, but there's no way to know that. Her soul could be stored in a black box that's impossible to be easily destroyed and all they need to do is recover it and install it into the next Penny.

Alternatively if new Penny has the same memories and personality and thinks she's Penny for all intents and purposes, even if there's a different soul, who's to tell her she's not really Penny? They could get all metaphorical about it.

Aside from very old texts that were jerking the whole knight and samurai cliche to hell and back there really hasn't any important novels that had the good guy fight in a remotely fair way.

The Greek myths were filled with cheating, the Japanese, the Chinese, American.

Musashi by Eji Yoshikawa has to be one of the most revisionist, idealizing works of fiction I've ever seen with Musashi being supposedly the epitome of bushido and half the time he's nailing people in the groin or ambushing them.

It took them 3 years to finally kill of someone major (Penny is an obvious plot point for the future, and Roman they just needed to get rid of because he wasn't supposed to be around anymore)

I think pretty much everyone from here on out will probably be fine. Maybe one more major character that isn't a mentor will die, but I don't think it's gonna end in a blood bath where everyone but RWBY are dead.

They could have just had him vanish, but then people would keep wondering where he was and expecting a grand return.

The obvious problem being, as mentioned, nobody really likes Cinder much because she's too full of herself and her own seriousness to be very entertaining. Hence why Merc is the new popular villain.

You do have a pretty valid point.

Hell, same could be said for Pyrrha.

Miles and Kerry may refer to her and Roman as "Dead" in passing conversation in pod casts for the sake of simplicity and not complicating things, but they refuse to ever confirm a character is dead or not officially, with what we're presented in the show being the only 'Factual' information.
Even in Jen Brown's sappy tweet that everyone insists is confirmation, she never actually said "Pyrrha death". She used the words "Pyrrha's fate" and "Pyrrha's exit".

It's purposeful. Even if the characters are dead right now with no intention to bring them back, they'll never not give themselves the option.
Why do you think they chose for Roman to get swallowed up by a Grimm instead of getting torn to bits by a Beowolf? Because being turned into giblets would make it harder for him to come back and have it be explained.
Why do you think Pyrrha's death didn't produce a body? Because a body can be buried, a body can offer closure.

However they did botch it because it comes off as comical than anything. The idea was to reinforce that the Grimm are actually kind of dangerous despite them being killed effortlessly all the time, but in execution that failed.

Not that they'll bring characters back.
We already know they're going to bring back at least a few important dead people, either the ones who have already died (Penny and Pyrrha), or ones that might die in the future.

On /rwbyg/ most of us love them both. On reddit and tumblr it's obviously because most people are biased towards cute girls, especially tumblr where girls can do no wrong. But anyway, I've got high hopes for /THE ONE/, and am also interested to properly hear Mirror Mirror Part 2.

I just had the odd thought of From Shadows Part 2 and I Burn Part 2 being a combined remix that plays after a Bumblebee Confirmation, when they both face off against Adam together.
Alternatively, From Shadows Part 2 when Blake faces off with Adam, and I Burn Part 2 when Yang makes her triumphant reappearance in the series with a robot arm.
No Lamar Hall in either case.

I hope that they don't bring Pyrrha back perfectly fine. All the things that happened before her death are perfect for developing her.

She can realize how she should have listened to Jaune and how the whole maiden thing made her lash out at him. How she got killed and failed. How she killed Penny(And not like Ruby coming in and saying "Its not your fault" and then she just excepts it). Jaune might have some issues with her because she just completely disregarded his pleas and killed herself, to him it could be telling him hes weak or that she doesn't care at all what he thinks. Pyrrha could show him that shes changed.

Honestly. As a side effect of however she comes back, they could make it so she loses her semblance so she ends up with a new one(Because everybody complains its broken). Alternatively, they could just establish a limit to her semblance.

Though I think the most enjoyable way for her to be brought back is Grimm Pyrrha redemption. Gotta love that "I know you're in there!" moment.

They are concerned with the fact that majority of the cast gets fucked over because they use metal weapons.
