>>81178172 >>81178324 I actually asked this one day at my christian co-op I had in college.
There was practically no one around that day so I just ended up chatting about the bible with my boss.
He's a pretty hardcore christian. Like, rereading the bible each night, running a non-profit to teach kids in Philly christ and all that kind of hardcore.
He was very adamant about the idea that homosexuality is outlined in the bible as being wrong and when I asked him about people that feel genuine love for both christ and a member of the same sex, his response was basically "they just don't know any better and what they're doing is still wrong".
So I asked "well what if they don't know they're fucking up then in the whole spiritual sense?"
His response was kinda surprising. He basically said they won't go to hell, that grey areas like that are more for where judgement comes in. In the end he admitted that if someone really did have a love for god and jesus, but was misled to believing homosexuality was right, they still had a chance as god is forgiving and all that shit.
tl:dr
Gayness is wrong, but if you really do believe your homolust isn't a part of the bibble, you can still live for the lord and all that jazz.
Anonymous
>>81178349 Because cherry picking is easier to spead their hate. They say gays and lesbians are wrong on one hand, then don't condemn women for wearing pant suits and go ahead and eat shellfish. The Old Testament is null and void due to Jesus making a new covenant with the people, and non-goyim shouldn't even follow the old book anyway. An Anon earlier pointed out Paul's words, but how does this condemn anyone to hell? The only rules of Chrisanity are simple ones.
Love and believe in Jesus and love your neighbor/treat them how you would like to be treated.

So you could be a gay guy and slpet with a hundred men, but if you come to God, you are forgiven, a good way to think about it is, its not about praying the Gay away, its about forming a relationship with Jesus, its not about your wants, its about giving your life for God.

Personally, I think it all doesn't really matter. The Bible was made long ago to recount tales of virtue and to guide human civilization. It taught things to help society stay together and whole. As time went on, the things it thought originally turned out wrong, stuff like not eating shellfish and stuff like that. But people take the stories of it too literally. Which is weird considering all the issues it has had being transcribed over such a long time. As far as christianity goes, I don't see the point to all the extreme ends. Like it went with Serenity:>I believe in god and jesus >And loving others >And I accept them >Bam, you're a christian. It shouldn't be about constant praise and "hammering jesus". It should be about being a good person: kind and helpful to others and living by your own virtues personally. Actions that show your love rather than words. Yelling at some guys touching dicks isn't helping anyone. It's like telling a chain smoker that they'll get cancer. They know the risks and have made their own decisions. But helping those who are truly lost come to understand themselves spiritually and virtuously should be what being a Christian is about. Making everything better through the morals and teachings of the Bible, not berating others and casting them to hell.

>But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.

Christ may have been the son of god, he may have just been a very skilled and righteous man. They even bring that up in the comic as they explain that whole Jesus Seminar thing. Their faith is where the power of Jesus lies, and what they do with it is what saves them.
But that really shouldn't be all one does for their faith. I'm not Christian myself, but I do see the virtue and potential goodness in Christian faith and values. They may be misused by others for the purpose of personal elevation or degrading others, but they are equally used to give lost souls something to hold onto and believe in.
Like I said, it should be more about being a good person. Helping those who are lost and standing by your beliefs in keeping yourself righteous. Following in the examples set forth.

I don't. I think it's more the stigma of it being different that makes those kids higher targets for such issues.

>>81180001 >I thought I heard that what was harmful was single parents It's not so much "single parents" that is harmful, but rather being raised without a strong role model of either sex. Basically, the best scenario is for a child to have a mother and a father.
But with that said, having a mother and no father is better than having a mother and a shitty father. An absent rolemodel is preferable to having a shitty one.

>>81180077 Look at it from Serenity's POV. I voted for Obama because I thought it was cool to have a black president. I wasn't at all political savvy, I just wanted to make history. This is an everyday girl who thinks zombies are coolio and has a pet spider. She'd vote for something she finds cool over anything real political wise. Trump isn't really cool to normies.

Isn't the main thing they quote about homosexuality about "laying with X as you would Y"? So, technically, shouldn't a gay relationship be fine, just gay sex isn't? Lori and Serenity can just hold hands and possibly kiss a bit, but as long as they don't go reaching for each other's vagoos it's all kosher, right? And even if they did, that would at least be them sinning in private. So them getting married should be fine as well. Not like they're doing it in public or anything. Just apologize to god after every night of passionate guilt filled sex.

I don't get it, do non religious people actually like this story, or is it a "do bad it's good" kind of thing? The artwork is sub par, the dialouge is cringeworthy, and the theme seems rather hamfisted. I was writing a paper today so I popped in and out and didn't read it all the way through, so maybe I'm missing something.
