>>81087164The problem with Zootopia's metaphor is the same one that most other sci-fi/fantasy properties have when they try to tackle racism, and that's the fact that if you make the suppressed race an actual, different species, you're kinda missing the point of why racism is bad.
It's like how the people in Skyrim keep the Khajiit out of their cities because they think they're all just thieves, which is obviously supposed to be a bad and racist attitude.
But then you actually play as the Khajiit, and you get a +10 bonus in sneaking, and +5 bonuses in pickpocketing and lockpicking.
It's the same with the X-men too. Not wanting a black person to live in your neighborhood is stupid. Not wanting Cyclops to live in your neighborhood is pretty understandable. Yet the two are equated, like minorities can also burn buildings down with a blink.
The movie was definitely, obviously about racism (hence the racial jokes and the allusions to the crack epidemic), but it doesn't really hold up too well.
