>>81065043This post is fucking dumb.
I agree with you that billdip fans who refuse to label their ship as abusive are out of their minds. It is an abusive relationship. Saying that it's not reflects an inability to recognise real abuse in real life. If you can't admit that your favourite cartoon character is in the wrong, how can you admit your neighbour, or coworker, or family member is in the wrong?
With that said, there's two huge fucking issues with what you just said:
>MUH COPING MECHANISMThe mechanics of an abuse victim using a ship as a coping mechanism is dependent upon abuse victims ADMITTING TO BEING ABUSE VICTIMS.
I'm an abuse victim, and I will take that to my fucking grave. So what, now if I use something as a coping mechanism I need to fucking broadcast my trauma to the world just to get your stamp of approval? Yeah, thanks, really looking out for trauma victims there.
The other thing is that sometimes it's possible to enjoy bad things, acknowledging that they would be bad in real life, but appreciating them in fiction for aesthetic reasons.
There are plenty of characters that I like who do bad things, and I like them because they show the results of trauma accurately (cycle of violence).
I like some people who let bad things happen to them because even though being abused should not be romanticised it reflects some other aspect of their character. (ex. I like a Man for All Seasons because More's religious convictions are inspiring, even if throwing your family under the bus is morally questionable; it is futile).
Sometimes excessive violence and comedic sociopathy is just wacky.
Sometimes I just love the aesthetic (Death and the Lady, yandere/Salome).
Relating to a "bad" character, aesthetics, invoking sympathy and pathos, etc. are all perfectly healthy ways to enjoy media.
Should billdip fans tag their shit? Yes. Should billdip fans not post their content around little kids? Definitely.
Is it evil to like? Don't be stupid.
