They are too used to one type of thing they can't see it any other way.
DC has always been the more serious of the big two. Even the first two superman movies were pretty serious. Camp does not work for DC like Superman 4 and the non Burton Batman movies.

Snyder film are under-appreciated Kinography. Even Sucker Punch is a very well done movie that can only be truly understood by patricians. Philistines who crave for cliched humor over thought provoking and meaningful story plague the current journalistic arena. These people have zero understanding of what good cinematography, writing, and acting is. Take for example The Avengers movie. Many of the shots look like they came out of a college student's project, not to mention the zero gravity in its scenarios or depth to any of its characters (outside of Captain America, who is very well developed). In fact, take a look at the deleted scenes of the Avengers for Cap. The very atmosphere is completely different and was taken out because it contrasted with how bland the rest of the movie is.

Because the idea of two superheroes having a big ole fight is supposed to have some modicum of fun to it. Maybe not Summer Blockbuster fun but some sort of fun. If they manage to erase all that by trying to drown it in schlocky drama that doesn't work then people notice.

Sure, fun is a buzzword and all that but if a movie was doing it's job people wouldn't notice the fun they weren't having.

Revenant wasn't fun. But notice how no one called it out on it not being fun because it wasn't marketed as "Your beloved childhood hero goes into the woods on a wacky adventure for the ages".

I got tickets to see this in IMAX on Sunday.

And honestly I'm not that mad, it sounds like it'll be an interesting fuck-up at the very least and who knows, I could genuinely enjoy it still

I'm more sad for my friend who's watching it with me. He's been depressed for a while and this is the first thing that he's managed to get hype about in ages. I think he'll still like it, but the reviews will probably dent his hype.

As someone who saw the movie THE ONLY thing I really liked was Batfleck.

He was seriously good a both Bruce and Bats, everything else is a fucking JOKE.

I will watch Batman trilogy if Afleck has green light on directing, Snyder should be never allowed to direct again

Days like today remind me why film criticism is dead.

Mind you, it's not because of the taglines (since, if you say "the critics are wrong", you'll be accused of not reading the reviews), but because the reviews simply lack depth. This is true in both the positive and the negative ones.

And I suppose it makes sense. If you watch a movie one time, without the opportunity to pause and rewind, you can't really comment on much except whether you liked things or not, or whether the plot was good or not. Minute details melt away, and you're left with describing whether you liked something you can hardly even remember.

Ebert truly was the last readable critic, and even he was not very good in the grand scale of things.

Fun is every bit a legitimate description to give after partaking in some form of media. When all you can say is "it's fun" you have an issue but chances are the review has more than one fucking sentence to it.

There trying to capture the success of the Batman Trilogy while at the same time understanding what made the trilogy work in the first place.

Gritty philosphy cape movies can exist but it just plain doesn't work with something like Superman or the very least needs to be handled with extreme care. Add to the fact that they're trying to create a cape universe in the span of one film just because the other company had the common sense to develop and take time with that shit and it's not hard to see why it failed.

Still going to watch this, I never had high hopes for it because of MoS. I just want to see some Batman. Affleck looks like the animated series Batman and I hope he gets a couple of solo movies. I've never really trusted critics, they're only sharing an opinion (which is usually shitty). It is unfortunate that WB can't get these movies to work because it would be nice to have a break from the formulaic Marvel movies. They're enjoyable movies, but they don't take any risks because they make the most money the way they are which makes original movies an undesirable investment because of opportunity cost.

The difference is they all had movies before being forced together into one movie. They all had there origins explained in separate movies. All they had to do was come together and fight.

Probably not. They've already got Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman on the way, and while Justice League doesn't begin filming until next month it's more than likely that any negative feedback from BvS will be reflected in JL, the same way that negative feedback from MoS fed into BvS.

Overall, it's unlikely that anything will be affected heavily. The movies already make back their budget through product placement and tie-in deals alone.

Actual DCfag here. I prayed this movie would bomb every fucking day since it was announced. Having Snyder helm the DCCU was the worst idea in the history of movies. This movie bombing means maybe Justice League won't be shit any more because faith in Snyder will be diminished.

The downside of this is that DCCU is still being managed by WB which means Justice League will probably just go to the other extreme if they even get rid of Snyder at all.

You are fucking seeing it: form opinions on people without giving them a chance to make up their mind. BvS is really an amazing accomplishment of storytelling, but it has a lot more in common with William Wyler's Ben Hur than The Avengers. It is a story about humanity and not a comedy about people who only look human on the outside.

It's a real shame 4chan can't see past Disney's deception. And Good riddance, i don't need you.

Ben Affleck is fine as Batman, once you get past the fact that he’s Ben Affleck in a waistcoat. The problem is the film’s vision of Batman. The first sign of this being horrible was the fact that Zack Snyder was directing.

The next warning sign was the growing list of characters that we found were being added.

But the one that put the nail in the coffin for me was Zack telling an interviewer that there was going to be a 3 hour extended cut.

I don't know why people still can't figure this out. Long-winded and self indulgent are NOT good qualities in a director.
Someone tell me because I'm really asking. Has Snyder *ever* directed a good movie? Like, ever?

the thing about Marvel is that tthey have superior casting choices. everyone they cast is pretty damn likable on screen

i do think lessons were learned though and they will be moving passed the quips
