>>80554368generals are awkward and force a forum posting format onto an imageboard enthusiast website? And they foster insular communities that insist upon acting like they do on other websites without lurking and learning basic post etiquette
No seriously, every other topic on 4chan that isn't /vg/ or an autistic 'fandom' just operates like this.
1. If you want to discuss or share something, you make a thread about it
2. If there's already a thread on the topic you just make a side-post in that one
3. After there isn't anything left to discuss in that topic, it slows down and you move on
4. Thread drops off the board to make room for whatever new thing someone thought of to discuss
But everyone insists that they want a permanent place for their one movie or show.
1. You'd almost always have to post in the general to get responses. if you like the show but don't like the general you're fucked
2. the topic is always up, but has to be manually bumped every few minutes and the topic remade twice a day and if you do it 'wrong' no one will talk about anything else for hours
3. newfags and tripfags join in without lurking because to them it's the "zootopia community" or "homestuck, etc. community" that they think they are already welcome in.
4. the thread runs out of image space after 250 posts as a subtle reminder that topics are usually done by now and should finish to make room for new topics
5. the general then either spreads across 4 threads at once clogging the catalog or languishes at page 8
6. the next two hours are spent arguing about why they can't spread across 4 threads and clog the catalog anyway instead of moving on
There are thousands of WAY better forums to post in if you want a permanent place to post art and discuss things in a small community. 4chan just is a terrible place for forum-like behavior and posting style, and you shouldn't try to bring that shit here.
