Honest Question.

Who were the whites and who were the blacks? I mean on one hand prey don't like you to use their words and are discriminated against just for being lower classed citizens. But on the other hand prey are depicted as monsters and mothers pull their kids away from them because of what they might be.

Sorry. I'm just preparing myself for how tumblr might take this movie.

That's a big part of why I like the movie anon.
Which group is oppressed and who is being accused of what is up to the viewer.

Can we all agree that Gazelle should never have talked in the movie? Singing is one thing, but she showed up twice to speak and the lines were delivered so horribly. That scene with her talking about wanting her city back went on for too long.

Query: Why wouldn't Bellwether have simply made the mayor go savage? She would have instantly been promoted to mayor and it would have been such a visible action that it couldn't have been suppressed.

As it stands, I believe it's implying that Bellwether orchestrated the whole thing so that a non-predator would enter the police station and solve the mystery and get Lionheart arrested. Making a non-predator the face of the ZPD would build her power base somehow. But she didn't exactly make it easy for Judy to do that. It was really a number of lucky breaks that made it happen.

So why did she play the long con? What was there to gain?

It has over 100 positive reviews and the one rotten gave it 2/4 for vague reasons like "it's great for kids but thinking parents should think twice." It's like, if the only thing you didn't like was how the message you agree with was handled, it should be a 3/4. She didn't say a bad thing about it other than a neutral and personal gripe.

The fact that I went to read the full review makes me think that people have too much incentive to move a score down to rotten territory just for clicks. The site would be better off with just not counting neutral scores.

I think Bellwether was just paranoid. I get the feeling that crime was pretty standard in Zootopia (theft, street racing, assault) but she was seeing something that wasn't there. Maybe she genuinely thought there was a threat, but if so, she was the only one to show it.

I don't think it had to do with crime at all but rather discrimination. The first bunny cop is a big deal, both for her and others, she talks about being the little guy and her office is pretty shitty.

Of course, there was some size issues, too. Hippos and elephant cops weren't out of place at all, despite being prey species.

I think Bellweather's deal is that she was pro-smaller/weaker prey animals and anti-predators. She clearly targeted all predators since she went for Emmett, too, but it's possible that she would have progressed to larger nonpredatory animals as well in order to secure control for herself and animals like her.

Compared to Frozen, it's a 10/10 disney movie.

It was less predictable, less preachy and less generic.

Seriously in my opinion the first half of the movie was a fun ride but it was a predictable buddy cop. But once the second half starts it goes from 8/10 to 10/10

It's cute. Not in the way frozen was, but in a "jesus christ my sugar levels are rising" cute. Also story didn't feel forced as in couple of last disney movies. Also no obnoxious forced scenes. You have to ignore that race tolerance theme though. Watch it as any other animated movie and you will have fun.

I think that there would be less animals in zootopia if things were somewhat realistic.

Yes you can, Detective is sort of like a secondary, separate rank. The detective is the one that, you could say, supervises the case, they're the one that has to keep everything in some kind of order to find the bad guy. In some places have an equivalent rank (for a sense of command) at Corporal for patrol men.

So in a very basic terms, you have patrolmen, which is what Judy and Nick appear to be at the end of the movie, then above that Corporal, and adjacent Detectives who are separated into their own departments. Above both of those you have Sergeants who command squads of officers and/or detectives, and so on.

Remember that the shooter was just some random 2bit ram. He could easily snipe random predators without being noticed but the mayor? Someone with their own security? In a likely more visible and public place where someone may have seen evidence of a shooter?

Too many variables. Much easier to just go after random predators _that you know are alone due to watching the traffic cameras_

I also don't think Bellweather was a master genius. She had a basic nasty plan and improvised from there. Her crew wasn't that competent and she was very reliant on on same-species muscle. She likely originally imagined the Mayor being called to resign due to the "Savage problem". Then he started covering it up which slowed her plans down but hey look this bunny showed up and is chasing the lead!

Taking all the variables out Bellweather had a good plan. It had high chance of success while protecting themselves from exposure. She was also perfectly poised to twist things in her favor as they pass the Mayors desk.

I tend to make my stuff written out by thinking up a bunch of scenes that I like, and then finding out they connect, along the way attempting to figure out the major plot of the thing.
I've got a few scenes, but no plot. The best I could come up with was one that was basically just a retread of the movies plot, but with added "cannibalism".

My biggest issue with that's out there now is that most of it is "How we got together" I'm more a fan of a characters already being together.

Oh, shit! I just realized why the Mayor had a scar and why the ZPD apparently had no fucking clue even from the first missing mammals case!

Bellweather's original plan was to have a feral predator assassinate the Mayor! So the mayor was the first one on the scene, but being a male lion (built for fighting) he was able to subdue them and realized he needed to hide them until he could figure out what happened!

Also implies the guy's a lot more badass than we give him credit for.

Okay wait a second. One of the reasons IRL racism is bullshit is because the stereotypes don't have biological foundations. There's no "I enjoy stealing and rape" gene in black people, white people aren't bone with acute "I would stomp a black baby if society let me" syndrome, and mexicans aren't born with skin that accumulates more dirt. We're all homo sapiens, so we're all pretty similar compared to the differences between, uhh, a fox and a bunny.

One of the moments in the movie that shows Judy is racist is when she says the serum is making predators return to their natural instincts. Do predators genuinely not have natural instincts like that in this movie? In real life there is an actual biological basis for stuff like foxes being clever and eating prey animals. This movie is incredible and yeah the animals walk on two legs anyway so who cares, but in a way Zootopia is a world where racism has a biological basis.

None of the predators ever demonstrate an instinctive aggression, and the most aggressive character is a damn herbivore.

So, like how humans had some pretty damn savage instincts of their own in the past and have since lost them (along with several organs that go with them) Zootopians probably honestly don't have any actual hunt instincts anymore.

The one big one is
Judy finds Nick in a restaurant that sells fake meat, but she doesn't know that when she finds him. It turns out there's a whole underground thing of making fake meat meals for predators. The kicker, for me, is that the head chef, and owner, is a sheep.

This fit in well with the plot idea that prey animals were disappearing and rumors were going about that they were being eaten.

It seemed a pity to me for the movie to bring up the big crime boss and turn him into a godfather reference instead of something interesting. Why not use that instead?

Here's an idea for something else:

Nick and Judy are together on duty and they stop in for some lunch. Fake meats are legally sold but seen as disgusting or creepy by a lot of people for obvious reasons. Judy notices they sell that and her small-town heart is incensed. Nick orders some for himself just to rankle her, he takes a bite and suddenly realizes that the meat is not fake.

The issue with this, of course, is that a) this means murder and b) Nick has tasted real meat before, which gives you a chance to explore some really fucked up shit in his past. The murdered animals could be members of a rival gang of thugs. Maybe the police generally ignored gang violence (maybe it's at the edges of territories, specifically between species that tend to exist between two habitat zones?) because it didn't affect the majority of the public but now that Judy has become aware of this oversight she has to do something.
