It also ties into the theme of perseverance. In spite of the futility of their actions, the team fought and even died when they could have just given up. All of the characters' arcs are built on perseverance, particularly Grovy, and then the final message of season 1 is that perseverance is ultimately futile in the face of nature itself, no matter how powerful you are. I found that very moving when I first watched the show, as very few of these shows ever really say "it's not about the world, it's about you" the way Wakfu did.
