>>79973730It's literally his dream job. But considering how incredibly defensive he gets about it, I have a feeling he's not enjoying it as much as he hoped-or at least not anymore. But at the same time he's probably afraid if he gets off the book, then someone else might take over and he'll be shut out for good. Unlike a lot of comics writers, he seems to just write for Marvel (for Spider-Man, specifically) and doesn't really have any other aspirations for comics. Unlike say, Busiek, Hickman, Bendis, et al I can't see him going off to do creator-owned stuff, because all the stories he wants to tell are with Marvel's characters.
He's probably actuely aware that it's the 'Spider-Man' on the book responsible for most of the sales, and not his own (look at the sales for silver surfer-probably a better comic). If someone else were to step up to the plate, they might equal or surpass him, and he'll probably never write Spidey again.
He wants to write one of those big, mythology-defining runs like Simonson's Thor, Claremont's X-Men or Hickman's Fantastic Four, on Spidey SO BAD and it's just nott happening. So the only thing he might possibly get is longest tenure writing Spider-Man - and that's only if Bendis blinks first.
