My gf had no idea who Deadpool even was beforehand, aside from the 2-minute rundown she got from me based on my limited knowledge and she enjoyed it too. I think they did an alright job making it appealing to as many people as could or would go to an R-rated action comedy. I also like meta-humor so I was kinda naturally biased towards the concept to begin with.

Why do normies keep saying this? He isn't R rated in the comics and isn't particularly hyper violent.

As for the film I enjoyed it, though I felt a few of the jokes fell a little flat and a fair bit of the swearing felt forced. I have absolutely no problem with swearing but it did feel sometimes that characters would swear for no reason other than "guy's look! We can swear in a superhero movie". It just made the dialogue feel a bit weird.

To be fair the generation/people it is trying to appeal to (mine and me, respectively) swear all the goddamn time. We swear a lot. He's always been pretty violent in the comics, It's just usually cut away or not as focused on. He kills people unlike everyone else, that's why he's considered more violent. And I think he has higher kill counts than Wolverine, because until recently, I think he was still straight up in it for the money. And he's more vulgar, they just bleep his curse words. Not every other word is a curse, but he has a good bit. I just re-read a bunch of the deadpool comics before the movie came out to really be able to see the differences.

Not to piss in everyone's Cheerios, but February is a dump month just like January. This has more to do with a major studio releasing something that looks like an actual movie in a shit month then the actual quality of the film.

And considering there's like 5000 big franchise movies this year, this is kind of the only place they COULD have slotted in Deadpool. This year is so packed with shiny summer shit that they released a fucking COEN BROTHERS movie in fucking February because there's nowhere else to put it.

Outside of that, I think part of its success is precisely the lack of executive meddling and just letting some guys do their movie.

Just look at Spawn for example, he was popular in the 90's and the studios decided to make a movie about him but they chickened out, edited the fuck out of the film, and made it PG-13 and it turned out horribly. It depends on the amount that DC exposes the movie, and if it's good. Deadpool had the best marketing for a movie that I've ever seen, and fox knew they had a good movie so they were letting critics and fans see it way in advance. The internet the way it is people listen to youtube reviewers now over traditional media. Reynolds said he's glad all these years fox rejected it, because now was the absolute perfect time to release it, and he's right. The movie was fantastic, word of mouth spreads faster then ever, and people while still going to super hero movies wanted something different. I wouldn't be surprised if domestically deadpool does better, it will have legs with it's praise. If DC keeps BvS close to the chest, or gets bad reviews (which it will) things will be very interesting when it comes to box office.

This is just the project of two people who somehow talked circles around the execs for years until they got 100% control of their movie. Then they made it in spirit of the comics. It's the exception, not the rule and it's not a trend until Fox decides to move further into this direction.

To show how much of a dump month February is, Tyler Perry made his career out of February releases.

DP, however, was underestimated and probably would've pulled high even without low competition, a double holiday weekend, or a romance angle.

On a tangent, I actually dumped a girl because she wouldn't go see Deadpool. She would've loved the romantic middle portion. I was glad to see it without her because she didn't deserve it.

UXM was never profound, but it came out at a point when the x-men comics were in the middle of a long downward spiral.

Well Colossus' english VA is a serb that speaks russian among other slav languages.

From what I have heard. Is that his Russian language version has a weird accent. They gave him this weird country bumpkin russian accent. To try and emphasize that he was speaking with a russian accent while everyone else was American of English.

I'm honestly surprised at the amount of adults that took their children to see Deadpool thinking it would be okay because it's a superhero movie. I noticed a lot of kids when I went to see the movie.

A theater employee told me that on some showings people left and someone got mad and was yelling about the inappropriateness. It's fucking rated R. What the hell did you expect?

Same, but I'm not surprised. I didn't think, even in this movie, they'd show the main character torturing an old blind lady (REALLY fucking with her, not just trying to swap her salt and sugar). That scene with her and Weasel in the Box, though--I think it's one of the best in any Deadpool comic.

I was also sad that they changed Al's origin in the movie. I liked that, in the comics, she was actually a badass and not just a random old woman, and she stuck around in part because she felt she owed Wade a debt for saving her life. He was sent to kill her, and, instead, he apparently took her home with him.

Little variety in action pieces and that's about it. I can't imagine a better Deadpool movie being made with the material they had ( no access to most of the supporting cast and had to do an origin movie ). Hal is usually written pretty blandly. GL has as much character in a movie as they write him one.

I just came back from watching it and it turned out way more solid than I expected (mostly because, well, I expected the merc with a meme when the movie actually tried to do things besides dumb jokes).
The humor ranged from legit funny to heh he said poop, and the action scenes could have really used a tad less abuse of slo-mo but other than that it was surprisingly good.

Also it was rated 12 and up where I live and I have no idea what they were smoking to end up with that rating.
