I disagree, The Batman has the best interpretation of Bruce Wayne. Bruce is supposed to be a confident, snarky and, somewhat cowardly playboy. Usually people just play him as Batman without a mask.

I'll be honest, I kinda liked him.
Then again I'm a fan of Brent Spiner, so I'm pretty biased towards that. He played his role pretty well and was fairly menacing.

See, in the AS, the joker would occasionally murder people, but they were all authority figures of one stripe or another.

In the jokers mind, they all kind of deserved what they got, and I kind of find it hard to disagree with him.

In a strange way, the joker is more of a hero than batman.

Until the comic books turned him into a cut-rate psychopath for no raisin.

None of the shit the joker does in the comic books is actually FUNNY. The shit he did in the golden age comics and in the AS was fucking hilarious, and it usually had a bizarre sort of irony to it.

trashy 90's comic books had no real grasp of irony. I kinda blame jack nicholas for creating the "creepy" joker to try and rope in older audiences with more blood and gore.

90's was a special time.

Comics started to have more leeway in what they could and couldn't show kids. A lot of artists used that to make some real gritty, realistic dramas, but the majority just used it as a way to showcase more blood and guts to sell comics.

That being said, I really liked the anti-drug batman comic series, (i think it was called "venom" or something) it was really unapologetic in the way it portrayed drug addiction, it didn't pull any punches or talk down to kids.

I mean the thing was, superman wasn't really selling, people had kind of outgrown him, people were starting to become more critical and cynical and he was struggling to remain relavant.

His death really would have meant something, if they didn't just turn it into a cheap ploy to sell more comic.

But it was kind of an era of extremes, things were either really good, or really bad.

Everything now just has this sort of middling effect, where its not really good and its not really bad, just sort of "meh". Back then they could take risks because they were losing a lot of business and basically had nothing to lose by taking crazy chances.

There was this ultra-conservative undertone in everything they did that painted all their stories in black and white, and they really failed to see that a lot of the problems we face today are much more nuanced than others would have you believe.
