Oh man, I didn't even consider that in full. I'll have to re-read it over the weekend for sure then. Whilst I did look back at the locations to see if they had any hidden relevance to the internal workings of Jackie's mind, I didn't note anything particularly striking, perhaps I missed something? Either way, I didn't pick up the deeper meaning to the NightStar so that will be interesting to look over on my re-read.
I think that's a fair assumption to make in the context of a fan story, given that the interesting thing to do is explore potentials when there's not yet something set in stone.
Given what the show has at the least offered in terms of the character of Jackie, I think it's fair to say there's some affection there for Marco, certainly over the course of the first season she seems more aware of him in a positive light. I still remember how cute her reaction was in IDFT when he was set to rescue her and he FUCK IT UP.
I think the show could really excel in terms of exploring character relations like it has with Star and Marco. I really want to see Star with another committed earth friend, especially a girl given that there's some things that Marco just can't relate to.
That being said, your comment about how things will change in season 2, headcanon wise, is definitely a fact the generals will have to deal with. We've built up some real strong interpretations of non-developed characters, to see those be replaced will be hard, but also welcoming given that it will be more official content.
