Take the Justice League, for example. What happened during these 5 years from the time they formed to the point the comics started? Who they fought? How they interacted?
Basically nothing happened because Geoff Johns couldn't be bothered by it. In the earlier arcs the Leaguers basically didn't knew each other despite being together for five years and their iconic villains were all introduced as if they were facing for the first time despite being a thing for five years.
This goes on for pretty much all the characters. It didn't helped with nothing. It only resulted in confusion and continuity mistakes.
