Go to a Comic Con and what do you see?
Comics publishers and comic creators (both professional and amateur). Cosplayers dressed as their favourite characters. It is a celebration of the comics industry by fans showing their appreciation of it.
It seems to me that nowadays Furry Fandom is the opposite. Longstanding funny animal comics publishers are passed over in favour of the hottest new fan artists. The 'cosplayers' - the fursuiters - don't dress up as their favourite characters, they invent their own characters instead. Furry fandom only exists to produce material for itself.
If a bunch of Normies come in from Zootopia and discover things like Blacksad and Usagi Yojimbo and ignore all the typical stuff you can find on FA, that's fine by me.
