"OH GOODY THERE IS IS!" Joy hopped with glee, "Now we just have to wake her up."
After the third attempt, and this time with much more support from the Dream Production staff, Joy flapped into a chair with dejection. "Why are none of these nightmares waking her up?" exhaled Joy, brow furrowed and shoulders slumped.
"Maybe they're not scary enough. Riley is thirteen now, she's a lot braver than she used to be."
Joy considered Sadness's words. The diminutive emotion was onto something here: Fear, another emotion in charge of guiding Riley through life, had taken to being more passive with regards to his input on the console, since Riley now had better understanding of her proportions and what was and wasn't physically dangerous. He would typically interrupt mainly if Riley was on an emotionally-dangerous path. Perhaps to compound the problem, Sadness theorized, it seemed likely he was not in charge of Dream Duty for tonight. Joy nodded, realizing this had to be the case; "Who is doing it tonight, then?" Joy asked quietly, secretly hoping it was not Anger, who was impossible to spook, scare, frighten or terrify.
"I..." said Sadness until she paused, because at that exact moment the two emotions exchanged a knowing glance. "... Disgust" they declared in unison.
