Keep forgetting Stormtroopers are just regular people.

I feel like The Clone Wars did an excellent humanizing the Clone Troopers. You see they are indeed Humans underneath the masks. Stormtroopers we never get intimate.

So I decided to give TOR another shot and played as a Light Side Sith because I've never done that... and honestly, am I the only one who thinks a LS Sith simply shouldn't be able to survive Sith society? The Sith doctrine is all about strength and ruthlessness, and doing what's necessary to come out on top, being a softie goody-two-shoes just seems like it'd get you killed faster. Hell, I'm not even sure why the other Sith put up with your shit, instead of calling you weak and trying to kill you for being a wannabe Jedi they just think you're kinda weird and "interesting". Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me.

Which genre?

if you are a fan of RPGs the Knights of the Old Republic games are pretty good.

For RTS go for >>77303963 the space battles are done well.

Shooters: Battlefront 2 is one of the best shooters out there, considering it's age. If you can get them running: The X-Wing series was amazing as a space battle simulator.

Knights of the Old Republic takes quite a bit of work to get running in widescreen and all that.

But you can get the Jedi Knight series on Steam and it's running good.
Jedi Academy is easily one of the best star wars action games.

Did you ever play as the Consortium? Free troops for ONE credit once you get your planets 'corrupted' which is ridicously easy. They had a mortar land unit (don't recall the name right now) that basically could wipe out whole armies, and their space units were also overpowered.

The only nice thing about the expansion was all the new planets, but there is no way of playing the maps without the UBER ZANN CONSORTIUM overruning all. I liked my games to be just Empire vs. Rebels without a broken speshul faction making it's own empire in the sidelines. It gets more annoying when you know they're just a bunch of pirates and they still can fight both the empire, the rebels AND win.

There's no option for the classic Empire vs. Rebles in the expansion, so I only play the original game.

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds... now that's a fun game. It's a total ripoff of Age of Empires but the scenario creator makes up for it.

Unfortunately, the sequence was entirely focused on Anakin and Obi Wan flying into Grievous' ship to save the chancellor. There was no buildup to that, no stakes and no officers we cared about. In TFA, there will be Leia and Ackbar commanding the resistance troops and Poe attacking starkiller base.

Not that anon but I just liked the multilayer with my friends. Fun as fuck. Single player on original x bone is kind of dated. Train level and some of the later stuff was fun but most of the early game was way too open with too little in the way of enemies.

Funny enough, i didn't try to play as empire or rebels with the consortium in galactic conquest, so i never saw the imbalance there. I actually planned on finishing both rebel and imperial campaigns first before going into FoC.

I mainly played the multiplayer back when there were still people using it instead of private servers. It was amazing and cool, especially the siege maps.
Korriban Siege was super fun. Dozens of Jedi and Sith duking it out and I just stood at the end of the current siege stage and mined the whole place up like the fag I was and am. So many kills, so little mines.

The steam version has some issues though, and isn't as easily modified as the stand-alone because of the steam-encryption on the main files. Things like the widescreen patch may not run properly on the steam release Although that seems to differ from PC to PC. For some there are no problems others can't get it to run. It's weird.

My first impressions of the show itself:
I guess I really should have started watching it sooner.
The movie wasn't amazing, but I don't understand the massive amount of flak it got from critics. The animation style, while far from traditional, is actually pretty decent once I got used to it. Which was easy because I already watched Season 1 of Rebels. The few awkward design choices apparently get better in later seasons, or so you told me, so I'm looking forward to that.

I've not seen much of the overall story yet Aside from well, Clone War. and the movie doesn't provide a very interesting story itself.
Jabbas slug-baby has to be saved and he asks Jedi. Really?
Sometimes the force works as the ultimate plot power, sometimes they just forget about it. Really?

But this is where the whole thing shines: Characterisation.
Suddenly the clones are no longer just a faceless army that could just as well be droids instead they are shown to have motivations, feelings and all that.
That is something that was missing from the Star Wars universe and after the Republic Commando books and the game are no longer canon... Well, this is exactly what was needed.
Spoilers for S1E16I mean, friggin hell, a Clone going full on traitor. That's more characterisation than the entire background rebellion got in Episodes IV through VI.

The lightsaber-combat seems to be done really well and not just the regular cartoon-punch-and-slap. I like it.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, especially if these are the weak parts and it's apparently getting much better later on.

Part of what made people turn on it when it first came out was that it was a theatrical release, despite not really being theatrical quality. It works alright if you're watching it on your computer, but watching it on a big screen it feels much more lacking.

I think the reason it gets shit on is because it's being critiqued as a film rather than a couple episodes from a TV series strung together as a special.

There's really nothing particularly wrong or bad about it.

Also, don't watch it in chronological order. Just watch it normally S1 S2 S3 etc. Don't know why people recommend that.

If this was really suppossed to happen, I am 120% done with disney for today.

The Vong were a totally new kind of enemy, a real threat and a whole culture behind it. It was amazing reading the series for the first time and then hearing about the new trilogy, hoping that Lucas would decide to just use New Jedi Order as the script.
But everything changed when Disney-Money attacked.

Yeah, I've never gotten the hate for the Vong, despite having never read NJO (my dad's got most of them and the cover to Vector Prime scared me as a kid for some reason). They just seem like a cool concept to me, one that hated both the Rebels and the Empire.

Aside from a few Season 1 episodes and swapping some episodes within Season 2 most is already chronological, so not much of a change later on.

Maybe we'll get something in a sequel to Rebels for the Era between VI and VII.
Clone Wars but for the Vong. That would be awesome. Make it play out somewhere in the Outer edges of the galaxy, maybe mainly in Chiss territory.

Sadly, the chiss never got much exposure in anything.
You could show their whole culture and how it breaks under the power of a Vong invasion. Make people fall in love with a culture that has to change it's ways over a war which threatens to exterminate them.
Show how their whole society is based around what you do not who you are.

Develop this more or less blank slate of a culture into something people care about.

Well, I'm not a huge fan of Filoni and I think that both the prequel trilogy and the Clone Wars movie are awful, but even I can assure you that TCW gets gradually better. If you already like the show, then you're definitely going to love the much better later seasons. The show gets really good.

I agree that the Consortium was DA tier special snowflake faction, but they weren't difficult to deal with. The hardest part was sending Palpatine around the galaxy removing corruption. Fighting them was simple enough. Build up your defences, weather their attacks and then counter attack, leaving them no room to breath.

Now Rebels were harder with their massed MC30's, until you get enough Interdictors to shut them down. Almost every planet of theirs having an ion cannon was incredibly annoying but not game breaking, same with their MPTL's and Garm Bel Iblis.

Well, I guess much of my enjoyment can be chalked up to being deprived of any quality Star Wars material for quite a while. I only just finished replaying the Kotor games for the first time in a while and it was awesome.

If the new movies don't hold up to the expectations I'll be pretty heartbroken. Star Wars has had way too much influence on my life to just end and sink into obscurity.

JJ Abrams is a very competent director, no matter what some Trek nerds might think about him. The last time Star Wars had an actor's director of his calibre was when Irvin Kershner directed TESB. I'm pretty sure TFA will live up to everyone's expectations.

I know it's really blasphemous to say that and I say that as someone who LOVES the original trilogy, but the only Star Wars movie I'd (objectively) call "really amazing" and give 10/10 ratings is Empire. As a big Zahn fan I was never a fan of the Chiss culture as established in the EU. I liked Thrawn as the freak savant outcast, but as it turns out a lot of them are like him, which comes back to the recurring problem of EU writers typecasting any alien as whatever representative of their species first showed up. Greedo was a bounty hunter? Rodians have a culture structured around hunting! Bossk was a bounty hunter? Trandoshans are all hunters and worship a hunting deity! Oola was a slave girl? Twi'leks are slave girls!

Also I have seen some mentions that Zahn himself was not happy with how the EU writers described the Chiss culture.

Even so, Zahn created the Empire of the hand, which was really fucking dumb. C'mon Tim, you can do better than powergaming like this.

Been reading Lost Stars.

I feel like it could really work as a stand alone movie, perhaps like Rogue One or Han Solo... There's something so sweet about a Rebel and a Imperial being in love, despite their conflicting yet very reasonable beliefs. I like how that they don't make girl character's motivations be ignorance of evil, but it's really a matter of honor to her. They flip the trope's too by having the poor, family loving character be the Imperial and the rich, spoiled kid with shit parents be the Rebel.

Which is literally everyone. Star Wars is so engrained in popular culture, even people who have never seen it know the plot. They know Vader is Luke's father, they know about Jabba the Hutt, they know it all already, and showing them Star Wars as adults is more likely to bore them than anything else.

I've never watched Star Wars for the first time with someone who didn't just say "that was alright" or anyone who didn't just fall asleep.

It's the machete order. Its primary purpose is to avoid spoiling the Vader reveal. It's popular because of that (and also because it ignores Episode 1) but in practice it's actually pretty terrible and a lot of the people who advocate machete order have never actually tried it.

If that's not enough, its primary reasons for existing is moot because there are very few people who don't already know Vader is Luke's dad, even if they've never seen it. It's kind of futile trying to preserve the surprise.

It skips the "most boring" movie which has no real plot focus on the greater overall plot of the movies. It then places very out of place flashbacks in the form of II and III after the big Vader reveal before ROTJ. It spoils the Leia-Luke sibling reveal from ROTJ and drags out the cliffhanger of ESB's ending, but keeps the viewer in the mindset of OT and later by focusing the movies to OT years instead of PT years.
Personally I think it's stupid. Most normies would probably get put off by the sudden jump in picture quality (very bad to good to bad again) and it leaves out TPM, which on it's own gives a needed look at the galaxy before the dark times changed everything forever.

It's known as Machete Order, and it's bullshit.

The IDEA of the order is that you watch as if you were only watching the OT, but you put the prequels in-between ESB and ROTJ as a sort of extended flashback, and you omit TPM because it's not tied into the OT tightly enough to work as a flashback.

The reason why this is actually a bad idea is that ESB doesn't really have an ending and all of its plotlines pay off in ROTJ instead. It's frustrating enough to just have to sit there with no resolution until you have time to see the next movie. It's fucking awful to have to sit through another two whole movies before you can wrap up what ESB was doing.

The upside to Machete order is the same as the upside to release order: you preserve all the OT's twists, and ANH is the absolute best entry point for the series. It also has one of the upsides of story order, in that you get to end everything on ROTJ, which has a very neat and satisfying ending that wraps everything up with a nice little bow, rather than release order ending on the huge downer that is ROTS's "the bad guys win and most of the good guys are dead" ending.

While the Machete Order quickly became very popular after it was introduced, more and more people are starting to recognize its significant downsides, and it's not going to matter anyway because TFA's going to trash it pretty soon. At this point, story order is pretty much the order with the fewest drawbacks.

Am I the only one who isn't that crazy about the beginning of empire. When I first watched it I felt like it lasted forever and the completely white backdrop didn't make it that exciting either. I can appreciate the filmmaking now but as an average viewer the beginning kind of turns you off. Whereas anh gets straight into the action. Empire felt a bit long winded at times. Unpopular opinion but it's my least favourite of the OT

It falls apart pretty fast when you remember that Sheev specifically pointed out that he could save the ones he cared about from dying and never once implied that Plagueis had ever gained immortality for himself (and in fact points out the irony in this). Anakin's interest is in saving someone else from death, so whether or not Plagueis ever achieved immortality for himself is actually completely irrelevant to Anakin's needs.

Yeah, the Machete Order guy seems to me like he's just trying to push a sort of cult-like excessive worship of the OT as The One True Star Wars.

Which I guess fits, because the Machete Order makes AOTC and ROTS worse movies by shoving them in as this flashback that everyone's going to resent for delaying ESB's resolution, so he's certainly promoting prequel hate.

If someone asks me if the OT's better than the PT, I'll say that yeah, I think so, but if the same person asked me if the PT is watchable, enjoyable, and/or really Star Wars, my answer would be yes to all three, followed by looking for an escape hatch out of the conversation because it seems like it's going a very angry direction.

It's like an homage to old school Sci fi serials, cheesy 50s romance, cyberpunk car chases, Arena executions with monsters and noir detective sub plots. I loved it for what it was. Even if anakin was creepy, he's basically a realistic teenager but worse cause he's a monk who's never spoken to women. Imagine somebody, before they discover/learn about the force, walking into an old jedi temple in ruins and having like dozens of ghosts from over the eras try to talk to them and just being overwhelmed. It would be cool to see the force ghosts used as something spooky. Fragments of history in a dark old temple. Not convenient or approachable.
