In the original Silver Age stories, Platinum's attraction to Magnus is seen as pure insanity/mental instability. IE Platinum's an insane AI that went horribly horribly wrong and the ONLY reasons she was not immediately mindwiped and reprogrammed with a new more subservient less clingy AI is that A. the other Metal Men would have killed Magnus if he tried to do so B. Platinum being a crazy stalker chick actually HELPS Magnus, as she not only managed to suss out that other aliens might be trying to seduce Magnus for evil but also, was the only one of the Metal Men who thought Magnus could still be saved when he went full tilt evil at the end of the Silver Age run/Bronze Age run. But also C. When Magnus decided to get rid of Platinum by putting her in a glass case/paralyzed so she couldn't move and sold her to a museum, Platinum could still cry and created such a scene that Magnus was shamed by the public and the museum to take her back and denounced as a cruel monster for doing that to Platinum.
Post-Crisis in the early 90s Metal Men mini; it was wholesale retconned that Platinum WAS Magnus's actual girlfriend who's mind was trapped in the Platinum robot body with amnesia and that Magnus hated on her BECAUSE of his guilt for turning her into a robot.
In the New 52, it was established that Magnus rejected Platinum's advances because he was terrified she might die on him or be taken away by the government and mindwiped/lobotomized and turned into killing machines and that the Metal Men had "died" fighting Chemo in their first outing as heroes.
Post-Rebirth, their origins were changed again and it was revealed that Magnus was an incel and programmed Platinum with the personality of a Stacy he lusted after but in making her programmed to love him, he inadvertedly made her TOO devoted to him and now she loves him like a deranged stalker.
