However, OP's pic is disingenuous for 2 of those 3 designs. Ren's change over was the result of spumco being replaced by games, and Rocko's was due to a long period of absence between Static Cling and the show proper.
Spongebob's infantilization is reprehensible, and was even evident during the years Hillenburg was still showrunner, and then nothing was done to correct this after his short return to the show before his demise. Not to imply I blame him for it, but he was more present than JonK or Joe Murray were.
