In the live action 2017 Beauty And The Beast remake, Emma Watson had immense creative control. She always felt that Belle wasn't feminist enough and she decided to change that in the remake. In her version, Belle is a strong independent woman who dresses solely for comfort and doesn't wear makeup at all. She changed her village outfit to include pockets where she could keep all of her objects, rough hiking boots that would help her explore the village as much as she wants, no corset and on top of that, she had the idea that Belle should be wearing her skirt hiked up enough to reveal her bloomers, in order to give off the impression that she's wearing pants.
The classic yellow dress was modified to be comfortable and easy for Emma to move in. Emma refused to wear anything heavy or that might get in the way of Belle being an active heroine.
She made a point that Belle also runs a women's activism center in her village and that her preference for comfort is made to contrast the human beast's preference for decadence. What are your thoughts on these changes?
