Yeah this too. That last Disney+ announcement show was exhausting, the sheer amount of unneeded content that was announced. The amount of content is overwhelming and its not good for an audience that is already burnt out on MCU stuff and in a lot of their eyes, the story ended at Endgame.

Who the fuck is gonna watch Echo or Agatha Harkness. Do they REALLY need their own shows? I completely got Agatha's backstory from the one scene they showed of her. That was enough to tell the audience about who she is. IMO they're going in the wrong direction. They show be at square one again after Endgame, little content, very easy to follow, build it all back up. Not all these shows and movies of literal whos that will amount of nothing as its content for the sake of content.

I actually like Fraction's run on Hawkeye. I haven't seen this MCU shit since endgame but I think it was a mistake opening a Hawkeye show with 20 minutes of Kate's origin. She may be a cool character but normie fans who watch a hawkeye show want to see the Hawkeye from the movies, and this 20 minute episode 1 Kate opening makes it seem like this is just going to be another Girl Boss Woman usurps male lead propaganda show.

I'm 30 minutes in to episode 1 so far. It seems like Girlboss Kate propaganda, and still no hawkeye. Maybe it will get better.

Yeah, at this the MCU seems almost as convoluted as the comic's universe(s). And (to me) TV shows are a much bigger time commitment than reading back issues. There are too many barriers to entry already and it just keeps going.

The series isn't called Clint Barton or Jeremmy Renner, it's called Hawkeye and there are two characters there one that is Hawkeye and one that will be Hawkeye. Just like Captain America 4 won't feature Ste Rogers and people should know that.

Maybe, but this show respect Clint enough. In the first three episodes Kate is continually rescued by him. Kate is indeed very skilled, but she's by no means a strong invincible woman.

I like that the intro have a montage that she went through years of training and that they show multiple times that she can make mistakes, they likely learned from the mistakes of shows like mulan.

I just find it kinda lame that Clint is taking a back seat in his own show similar to Loki. Two 2/3 episodes started with long ass flashbacks to the boring childhood of 2 women.

They're desperately trying to find their Iron Man and Captain America replacements for their stars because Spider-Man could be snatched from them at any moment so he's too risky, and their two original next gen big heroes were Black Panther and Captain Marvel, they were meant to lead the next Avengers, but then Chadwick died and people didn't respond to Captain Marvel well, so now they're taking their properties, throwing them at the wall and hoping they'll stick and find the next Iron Man and Guardians from their D-Listers.

Keep in mind that audiences didn't respond as well to the FF or most of the X-Men movies as they did to most of the MCU. Those properties might be big deals in comics, but in live action the MCU is better off taking risks on something audiences have never seen before than on trying to reboot properties that audiences' last memories of were bomb movies they didn't want to see.

It started strong with the beginning of Wandavision, that show then failed to stick the landing, F&WS blew, Loki started to curve back up, and now with Hawkeye we have an actually good show.

Honestly I'm not against Kate but that should be season 2.
Like the first season should be on Clint and his time as Ronin with flashbacks going back and forth. Plus we could have gotten to see and acknowledge what life was like during the blip.
We set up Kate near the end of season 1 and boom season 2 would be about Clint and Kate.

The latter half of episode 3 finally having some decent action and a car chase scene was nice, hopefully they can stay consistent with the action and not be as slow as the first 2 eps but I wouldnt be surprised of it's just another slog for 2 episodes followed by a decently budgeted final episode

The third episode had a lot riding on it for me, because it was not only the episode that had to introduce Echo, who really needed a good first impression to justify getting a spinoff before the series even aired, but it's also the first episode from the director duo who's also doing ep 4 and 5 before switching back to the first director for the finale. I was worried there would be a downtick in quality, so I was pleased to see that Echo has at least a decent setup, and I thought the episode overall was actually better than the first two.

Normies hadn't even heard of most of the MCU characters before they appeared in movies, and now most of them are household names, and more so than characters who are more popular with the tens of thousands of people who read the comics. Then because of how bad shit like Solo and Last Jedi were received they cut way the fuck back and just made Mandalorian which was received very well. Loki was good they set the bar with the infinity gauntlet, now the public are expecting the same sort of special effects high fantasy science fiction adventure panache in anything they produce and Loki lived up to that. Hawkeye isn't as gritty but it's better quality than most of the Netflix Marvel stuff barring Daredevil. The tone fits the comic run it's based on though. The real test is whether they'll make the Echo and Daredevil D+ shows dark enough to feel consistent. Moon Knight looks interesting though, if they can pull that off they can probably do Daredevil justice.

It definitely had pacing issues even it's first season which people seemed to overlook back when it first released. It has good highs though which is why fans tend to forgive that, also rose tinted glasses looking back I guess. All the MCU shows have their strengths and weaknesses though. Netflix's were mainly budget and pacing, Disney Plus' are all over the place depending on the show.

For example I'd say the finales of WandaVision and Loki are both extremes on opposite ends of the spectrum. The former was resorted to the typical spectacle but kept things character focused with Wanda's arc, while the the latter got the spectacle out of the way with the Alioth fight in the penultimate episode but it quickly all became about He Who Remains/Kang and the larger plot set up of the MCU instead of serving Loki and Sylvie's arcs as much. I think if Loki was written like WandaVision it would've had Loki in charge of the TVA, that's even how it seemed in the first episode making me wonder if the story was changed to be more relevant to the Phase Four storyline, we know the original pitch for Loki was completely different too, with Loki time travelling and manipulating Earth's history.

So I think the biggest thing the Disney Plus shows suffer from is having to be vehicles for other series or movies. Which means incomplete character arcs or half baked subplots in favor of setting up some other thing. Which is kind of the MCU's selling point but despite Eternals flaws I thought it being more self contained was refreshing. And WandaVision could've been better without Strange or Mephisto showing up, it just needed a little more time but they rushed it out because of covid.

MCU can get pretty violent without even showing blood but they rarely do. What If Zombies surprised me with some of its gore although that was animated. As long as Kingpin keeps his ferocity when he does throw down and snaps a few necks I'll be cool with it. Thanos snapped Loki's neck at the start of IW after all. And you can say "well Loki was technically a villain/antihero at that point" but that's all Kingpin needs to do, murder some of his subordinates like he did with that guy using the car door.

They will have to venture into R-rated territory eventually though. They can walk the line with Daredevil and the like but I think if they made another Punisher show, or brought Deadpool into the MCU, there needs to be more explicit stuff.

It’s honestly not a bad show. The strength it has over the other shows is a more down to Earth street hero with a fun gimmick. Daredevil was disappointing due to scripts, budget, and a clear creator embarrassment of Matt’s costume. If we’re having a do over, then a future Daredevil show would benefit from these resources/creators. F&WS arguably suffered from budget concerns given Sam’s gimmick

A more streamlined Daredevil show would have been fantastic. It definitely benefited from being disconnected from the main MCU because it allowed 3 seasons of 13 episodes each an hour long to be for one character. Before the Disney+ shows I assume Daredevil had a longer runtime than the entire MCU and has been on screen longer than any other MCU character
