>>127270123>Not even The Last Airbender is good anymoreI know this is bait, but let me fall for it willingly:
Arcane is good. It's really good.
But as it stands, its first season is nowhere near as fun or as interesting as ATLA.
It presents an interesting world, and interesting stories--but the only half-original thing it actually does is Jinx. Jinx in her crazyness... and she barely actually appears.
Arcane is a safe show. it's a show that does things in an extremely formulaic way. It benefits from being as enjoyable as it is, but it also suffers from the fact that I ended up not giving a shit about anyone but Jinx.
Caitlyn and Vi? Cop/Criminal Buddy story. I cared more about the idea of them kissing than I did for their stories.
Jayce/Victor? Their stories were so predictable that the only thing that threw me off was that scene where Jayce is shirtless and I questioned my heterosexuality.
Silco? Classic villain gone soft because of kid story.
Everyone else? The fact that I don't remember shit probably speaks for itself.
They are all rehashes. They have no inherently unique personalities, they are copypastes of others with a LOL filter.
Opposite to that, even as a kid, after having watched only once each episode of ATLA, I could remember each of them perfectly. I could tell you, right now, what makes every episode fun and special, what makes each character unique. It has a fun magic system, it was proper character arcs that span seasons.
Arcane only has Jinx and a cool aesthetic. And yet, I still prefer Avatar's 2d animation and aesthetic. Every fight in Avatar was interesting and stunning, and creative in the use of its elements. Arcane's fights look cool, but... what else is there to it? It's mindless action. Hell, half the time, the fights mean nothing. You could take them out of the script and it'd be the same--in avatar, every fight has an impact. It furthers the plot in some way.
Arcane is a good show, but it doesn't compare to the great ones.
