Woke things often struggle because politics is used as a substitute for good writing, or woke creators behind a project actively pushing fans away with bad attitudes, or using wokeness as a gimmick. As another gay guy, I get how you feel, and it's nice that we get these welcoming signs of acceptance. But at the same time, it's hard to trust big corporations when all their actions are calculated to make them marketable and appealing. Any kind gesture is done because it costs them nothing or benefits them, otherwise I doubt they'd care. Again, it's better than nothing at all. But there's this still this clear, cynical element that it can't be divorced from.
