An interesting aspect of Arcane Season 1 is that all of the characters featured aren't up to their LoL champ "power level" yet. They're all building up to it. The only exception might be Singed

As a change of pace, I'd be interested in seeing a story with a set of champs who are already at their powerful LoL champ level. There are plenty of champs you could choose for this who have been fighting for a long time. Basically any of the Noxian, Damacian, and Ionian champs are life-long warriors and all of the monster champs from the Void (like Cho'Gath) have a predisposition for carnage.

I think live action will fall into the same pit as the Cowboy Bebop show. Corny looking at real people in those outfits, they will have to deal with Hollywood shit like the SAG or production studios to get it done instead of just paying an animation studio to do it.

I feel like actually having played League is fucking the show up for me. The whole final episode is definitely meant to make you feel like "oh no, Viktor is heading down a dark path, he's being tempted by these things that are making him feel alive."

Fuck, no. Please no. This would never work. It'd need an absurd level of cheesy campiness not to be laughable. Animation has the upside of being able to present not-everyday events and ideas without looking stupid or far-fetched, live action does not. Imagine all the fight scenes or visual storytelling if real actors had to pull punches or skinny women had to pretend to be strong, and so on. It'd never work. Please no.

Just don't make it all about Zaun/Piltover just because Arcane worked. The last thing you want is to have a star wars situation where you only focus in one part of the world and not the whole setting.
I don't want any other Zaun/Piltover show, give me Demacia, Noxus and the other places. Theres enough characters and lore to make whatever the fuck you want. Give us variety.

They seem to be going surprisingly light on Valorant lore (at least for the time being) for some reason. There's things being hinted at and building up but we don't even get that many cinematics or even short colour stories like we get for league. Even the voice lines are relatively lore sparse

I dread the thought of Riot acquiring the rights to Shadowrun but I'd love to see Fortiche adapt the setting for an animated series. The way they portrayed Zaun in Arcane makes me think of what they could do with a setting that's truly dark and dystopian.

I think the thing I like the most about Jinx in this show is that her little crafts and "le crazy girl" setpieces like the dinner table do not come across as "I'm just crazy like that" and they actually make them feel much more like obsessive things she does to either soothe herself like the Mylo and Claggor dolls or get some desperate point across like the dinner with Silco and Vi.

She’s intentionally cropping out a situation that is hers where she controls all the variables and presents the world to Vi as she sees it. Her inventions painted with crayons were always her safe place and an outlet, so bringing everyone into a setpiece built in that manner makes her feel like she’s in control. It’s all cope - she can only ever feel safe when she coats herself in the scary protector persona that is an extension of the things she did as a child that were unique to her. “What makes you different makes you strong” - she feels strong and confident when she indulges in her brand of “different”.

Girl has no one and nothing and is about to be public enemy #1, she's gonna need friends ... and there are a number of Zaun champs that don't fit into anyone's story in Arcane nicely but could fit a "misfits crew". And she's shown hints of enjoying destruction in the past, but she's not at Get Jinxed/ LoL levels yet. Ziggs could bring that joy back.

Could easily see Jinx running a gang of Ziggs, Twitch and Zac.

I can't imagine characters like Ziggs, Twitch and Zac working with the tone Arcane is going for. Then again, Jinx herself acts like a cartoon character in League, while Arcane portrays her as a deeply tragic figure. Maybe it could work, but I'm definitely not able to see how it could.

Vi sounds like a completely different character in LoL, nothing like the cold, apathetic meat head she is in Arcane. How is it character assassination when there was barely a character to assassinate? What they did in Arcane was give tangible reasons for her behavior and mannerisms, and turning her into a tragic figure makes sense and ties in well with what little IS known about her. I just hope that they go ahead with reworking her in-game to reflect who she is in Arcane, because Tragic Jinx is better.

I know about her voice lines and interactions with other characters from the game -- I was a Jinx main for a time, of course I know. What I'm saying is that Jinx's character is openly tragic in Arcane, and that's better. The writers had to take what little is there in the game and build an entire backstory out of it, and what they came up with is commendable, at least to me.

Biggest issue I see with more League adaptations is the issue of actually finishing these characters stories. They can't kill off characters because they need to be alive ingame. So we cant have any continuation to the Piltover storyline, because we know Jinx and Vi cant die, and they cant settle their differences. Unless we do some television only OCs to fill spots for characters who need to die instead of champions, but if they do that too many times then it gets cheap. They will just animate every characters storyline and then its done, they cant continue because noone can die for the sake of the game canon.

Killing character in Arcane =/= killing them in game.
When will you brainlets get this concept.
If someone, say Jinx, dies in Arcane there's no need to remove them from game. The characters we see in League are just a snapshot of a particular point in time for each champion.
So if Jinx's story ends with her death it doesn't affect the game because the Jinx we play in game is from a point before her death.

I'm rewatching scenes here and there and I feel like if they just had a few minutes to talk things out, just between Jinx and Vi, they literally could've solved everything without escalation. Cait coming in complicated the situation but it was still salvageable. But once Ekko and his firelights came in, there was just no chance to talk.

All it would've taken is a conversation and things would've gone differently.

I see that scene differently. I see that as a reunion where the two are hopeful that things could be back to normal between them, but that's a delusion, jinx was already too far gone. When they start fighting the firelights, vi sees Jinx's true self and is horrified by it. Then Ekko tells her "Powder" is gone. I think they're hope of being sisters again is just one giant cope, delusion, and that it was never meant to be, which makes it even more tragic on a rewatch.

Characters are always moving their body and their expression with every frame that passes and it only works because in animation you have some freedom to overexagerate certain expresions or movements in ways that no actor or actress ever could.

A scene like webm related would cost a fortune to do in live-action whether they used CGI or practical effects and would be limited by either monetary or physical restrictions. With animation the sky is the limit. Whatever you can imagine and compose. You can bring to life.

I can't say for sure but I've seen multiple people in these threads mention that there was definitely no rotoscoping/mocap and there's been no mention of actors being used as reference either. I think it could genuinly just be these Fortiche guys being absolutely top quality from their work to their imagination.

Well now that Jinx has kind of forsaken Powder as a concept/personality.
It will just make any redeeming act she does do in Season 2 all the more powerful.
If she made a good decision pre blowing up the council it would be easy to say it's just that little bit of Powder within her still trying to do good.
Now any single thing she does to help someone is of JINXES volition and with all the bad she's done would be a rare and treasured accomplishment.

As someone who had a family who worked in casting and acting, I agree.
The micro-expressions, body movements, stances, etc. are phenomenal and there are many cases with the animations & animators surpassing the talent and "believability" of actual IRL actors. And with no mo-capping to boot.

Gonna be hard to top what we got in Arcane, but if some other projects will be close in quality it will be good.
I really liked the ending, it ended in a perfect way to pick up from perspective of other characters we didnt meet yet in the samy cities which should make for a much lower chances of fucking up what was made so far.

For live action i have no hope, not since its impossible to do, its just the fact it would be too expensive. We know how many corners shows like GoT have to cut, and in final season all that cutting of plotlines, of magic and of anything really fantastical fucked the show creatively and from the writing side.

People praise Akira for being the pinnacle for 2d animation, I really think that Arcane can reach that level for 3d. The level of detail they put into every bit of animation, the expressions, movements, textures, the blend of 2d effects with 3d objects, the background art, every part of this production, it's all so close to perfection. They've taken the medium and used it to it's greatest potential, achieving something that I really don't think has been done before. Sure, Disney's movies may be more impressive technically, but Arcane itself has a much stronger identity and quality to it that elevates it above anything else that's come before.

I was surprised how they have managed to make Jinx a slowly escalating threat over the course of the series. In the game she just feels like a lunatic with too many guns but in the show she is almost always just too much to deal with, every time her enemies improve she has some new tech or serum applied to make her more dangerous, and her mental state falling apart helps make her scarier as it goes. It's cool, I really did not like Jinx as a character in the game at all but the show made me "get" it

I would surmise that certain people financing these remake projects still think of animation as in the same ballpark as it was in the 70s and 80s, think the golden years of Disney, and they've been mostly unexposed to the classics of Japanese or European animation
They believe that animation is more expensive and time consuming than live action, and also that it's a much harder sell to the general populace
These concerns arent completely unfounded, but going with pure animation has pretty big upsides as well
I really hope Riot doesn't try to force this live action bullshit, I can hope that their leadership understands why it's a fucking terrible idea and why people don't want it

Overwatch is a small world with a small cast and small conflicts; absolutely nothing like Piltover vs Zaun. It's like 10 guys vs 10 guys. They want violence but only if is super safe, family friendly violence against robots. Not a drop of blood has ever been shown. The only thing you could do with it is like a Sunday morning cartoon type thing. And this is coming from a OW player with 1000+ hours.

During their reunion on the tower, if Cait and Ekko hadn't shown up, Vi had a real chance at getting through to her and saving Powder right then and there. But yeah, after that point I think you're right, there's just no saving Powder anymore.

I'd still love to see a Jinx reconciliation but how does that work when she's Osama Bin Laden now?

Ideally they play up the tension in season 2 with Jinx ramping up her actions even further. She's bombed enforcers and politicians so far but what happens if she becomes a threat to innocent civilians?
Would Vi be able to take out her sister to save people, or would she even at that point still believe Jinx can be saved.
I'm of the opinion that this show could culminate perfectly if Vi has to put down Jinx. Would reinforce the message of the show that there are no happy endings and some people can't be saved no matter what you do.

they still can't kill the character until they reach the point they are in game, vi as enforcer, caitlyn as sheriff, etc. For example Jinx can't die yet because she's alive in LoR interacting with Vi and we haven't been past that point in time yet in Arcane. Viktor can't die before his glorious evolution. Ekko hasn't found the Z drive yet. The only characters that could ever truly be in mortal danger are the new ones invented for the show, and almost all of them have been killed off one by one or are in immediate danger as of the cliffhanger

I do know they probably have to hit certain boxes. Jinx can't die because she's alive in the game. Powder doesn't come back. Her relationship with Vi has to be cemented, one way or the other.

Maybe they have a big showdown and Vi's forced to choose between saving people or putting down Jinx. It looks like she's gonna do it but just can't in the end and lets Jinx go. It ruins her relationship with Cait. Everyone lives but no ones happy.

I mean his idea is cheesy as fuck but I would say a chance for Jinx to redeem herself in next season would be a good idea for the show and her character as a whole. They need to either take it in the direction that she either gets killed off, or redeems herself through a great act. There's no way this show works if they just keep her in the middle ground. They need to move to one end of the spectrum and stick with it.
I mentioned it before but although I would prefer her arc ends with her death, if they do take it in the direction that she does something good it would be quite poetic that her entire time between since Vi left and her blowing up the council it seems that she hasn't done a single good thing so how crazy would it be that now she has fully adopted the Jinx persona and Powder is gone she finally does something redeeming. Feel like it would have even more impact as it's truly "Jinx" doing something nice rather than before where it would have been partly Powder.

That's not a bad idea, even if it's not very satisfying or conclusive. I'm of the opinion that they shouldn't try to establish the status quo present in LoL, assuming they're even allowed to deviate from that in the first place. They set Jinx up to be this very tragic figure and having the story end with her and Vi doing the Batman and Joker routine would be very disappointing. At least what im hoping for is some version of a working relationship between jinx and vi. Jinx having just finally confronted her past and choosing to leave behind the small fragments of powder, really cements her change into jinx. But at no point in season 1 did vi really contend with this new different sister and was only focused on who she once was, so i'd like season 2 to have vi's story culminate in her letting go of the powder she once knew but not completely forsaking her sister. I like the idea of a dysfunction but working relationship.

I was hoping Arcane would tone down the character designs a bit. I know her trademark is long braids a couple yards long, but maybe subtract six inches for logistical reasons.

Jayce and VI's weapons I know are comically large as per post 2000's WOW inspired fantasy art, but maybe just a bit smaller, like subtract two inches here and three inches there...and it would still be large fantasy troupe weapons but at least not be goofy looking. I like how Cait had a practical way to carry a folding rifle in a backpack. Kind of wished the gauntlets were small enough to fit in a large backpack when not in use and that the hammer could fit through a normal doorway while still being a polearm.

I know some people are upset that Cait isn't running around in a 1880's mining town saloon whores' outfit, but her current Enforcer outfit is still sexy. I'm surprised female enforcers wear skirts without pantyhose at all and that is a relief. At the very least there is reference to her game costume in her room.

I'm pretty sure they really did make Vi's gauntlets much smaller, they just went from comically huge to implausibly big.

Strangely enough, they made Jinx's weapons BIGGER - her minigun used to collapse into a bulky round "purse" when not in use in a fairly believable way and Fishbones now looks less like a childishly decorated RPG and more like Jinx's nightmarish rage conjured into a 2 ton slab of chrome. I sorta assume that she will build/upgrade the smaller minigun soon and we may never see Fishbones again if it was designed for that single, terrible purpose

If she comes to terms with the new person jinx is and they have some kind of working crazy relationship, i'd expect vi to call her powder for the rest of her life regardless cause that's who she should still be to her, her little sister. In Warhammer, they started the GIANT PAULDRONS, that WOW took the piss out of even more. A regular infantry guardsman's rifle is the size of a support machine gun IRL and even their small pistols are the size of magnum African safari pistols.

Basically I'm saying that yes, in media, even 9MM guns are the size of .50 caliber Desert Eagles and sniper rifles are the size of anti tank guns, but Anime/League of Legends/WOW/ make them stupidly huge, like Cloud's Buster Sword being a Dagger or something.

I feel like there will be one final confrontation between Vi and Jinx, with the climax being whether at this point Vi can accept that Jinx has now taken Powder's place. Jinx gets put down, but not killed, and is instead taken to prison. Vi would regularly visit her, fully accepting the fact that Powder is long gone and caring for what remained (Jinx). Jinx is content with Vi's genuine acceptance of her.

However, due to Silco's death and Jinx's actions, the people of Zaun are riled up against Piltover. Chem barons are fighting each other to fill the power vacuum Silco left behind and more radical Zaunites are taking up Jinx's torch through seeing her as a martyr.

Both Cait and Vi work together, with Cait being more lawful and Vi being more vigilante like, to take down the Zaunite threats and root out the corruption present in Piltover from both internal (Cait) and external (Vi) forces.

That's how I would personally end the Jinx/Vi plot.

that's not really accurate to silco's character. Its because he wants her to be strong and self-capable that he pushes her to be a "weapon". He uses her strength but teaching her anything else would have put her at risk of her own vander betraying her.

Yes coz that's only way he know how to live. He and Jinx has the same issues, same broken person. Silko was betrayed by Vander, and Jinx by Vi, Silko thinks that methods which helped him to going thru this problem with brother can also helped Jinx, so he do the same healing with her. Even made a baptismal ritual in river.

Silco encouraged her to become jinx because he saw her as strong - he saw Jinx as her free self, the self that was free from her past traumas. But it was still Vi's memory that brought her down that path. You build the plot in such a way to resolved conflict is peacefully and simply.
But then the character will not have an arc.
Jinx is clearly half way at the moment.

That was the whole point of the baptism scene, that's why he wanted Vi gone, he wanted to free Jinx from her past. He genuinely believed that. As he says, "they always betray us", just as Vander betrayed him he believed that Vi could only betray Jinx, that Vi would never be able to truly love her, and that's what Jinx comes to the conclusion of at the end. It's spelt out pretty clearly. He had a warped sense of things, but he wanted what he believed was best for Jinx based off his own experiences.

Hopefully they go more into their past interactions. Ekko's story is particularly interesting because there's not a clear path from where we left him in the first act to where we see him in the third. I'm wondering at what point did he become the boy savior, and whether he tried to reach out before that, and how he did it. Jinx definitely didn't go from Powder to killing machine overnight so there had to have been some time before it became an actual problem between them.

They'd been enemies and he recognized she was trying to kill herself when he couldn't bring himself to do it. He also barely escaped that explosion with his own life, and was so messed up after he never actually left the bridge that night. If he'd stayed Silco probably would have found and killed him in his weakened state.

I would have been ok with that because of the implications for just ekko and without even thinking about the implications to jinx's character. It would mean a lot for ekko to shield her, someone that he says he hates at this point, revealing that he actually still cares about her as his old friend powder.

I mean i think silco did do what he thought was right. And his last words speak to his genuine care. It was a dysfunctional relationship but a genuine one with love on both sides so it's hard to blame him specifically for unhealthy parenting when he himself didn't even know what the proper way to have raised her was.

Idk I think even if Silco wasn't there, Jinx would still become Jinx. She even says that it was Vi that made her Jinx, not Silco. Vi's abandonment and her words were her prime motivator. Silco just welcomed her in and saw his own perils in her and wanted to free her.

The show does a good job of conveying that most of the cast are victims of a deeper cultural problem that they never really had a chance against, Silco and Vander seem to be the only characters that had the capacity and ability to change that. Its why I love the tragedy of their stories

Vander was supportive of Powder, but not a father and a mentor to her the way he was to Vi. Vi literally learned the ropes from the man, Powder didn't have that connection to him. Also, it's fairly understated, but Powder didn't cry when her parents died so much as comfort her sister, I think it's clear from her beggar song and childhood stories that Vi was her primary caregiver long before their parents died.

Right and Silco reinforced this idea of her being abandoned despite being the reason behind it, he didn't lock her up but clearly believed Marcus had killed her on his orders. He created the problem then presented his solution, no matter how you cut it, he's the core problem of what happened to her mental state

What I wouldn't do for an extra episode just to show Powder and Ekko's friendship when they were kids. He's clearly the one she had the strongest connection with after Vi, but the show just don't show this.

yea idk about that. She stops struggling when he stops knocking her teeth in. and they have SOME kind of moment before the bomb but the fact that she was able to grab the bomb and chose to roll it out next to her instead of clipping it to ekko is proof of something. I take it that she knew he would run off her and because i don't think she wanted to kill ekko, maybe cause of that moment, she rolls it next to herself knowing it'd probably kill her.

The Jinx we know is so tied to Silco and his crusade that it's hard to see her turning out like that without him. She'd probably still be a nutcase obsessed with proving herself, but I don't think it would have taken the form it did from working for a drug peddling kingpin. There's some core part of her that wants to prove herself because of Vi, but I don't believe she would be killing people in cold blood had Silco not influenced her. Jinx is right in that Vi planted the seed, but Silco shaped the plant to his ends.

I just need a single scene, and some early Jinx too. We've only seen the characters' younger selves in the midst of crisis. We've only seen glimpses of Happy Powder, and mostly in a music video that isn't technically part of the show. Seeing how joyfully expressive Powder was in her flashback duel with Ekko made me realize there is a lot we don't know about these characters yet.
