>>126765979Anon, I have several trans friends. They're good people. I really do feel for them, and it's a terrible burden they have to live with. I am truly sorry for that.
But. I was raised to believe that I need to treat others how I want to be treated. I treat my trans friends with compassion because that's how I want to be treated. I only want that same fair and equal treatment I afford them afforded to me. I try to go above and beyond what I was taught, however. I try to treat people fairly and compassionate regardless of how they treat me, because I feel so strongly that compassion towards other people is important and a good thing. Even here on 4chan, I try not to snap and be bitter, cantankerous or angry towards other users because I think that's wrong. For me, "He was shitty to me, so I am going to be shitty to him" just does not cut it. But that's just me talking about myself. I most definitely fail those standards all the time, and I am disappointed in myself for doing so.
Nevertheless. With all that said, I can't say I agree with condemning Dave Chapelle or anyone for telling jokes that might be crass, off color or even downright offensive, and I can't say I agree with asking for different or better treatment than what you think is ok to treat other people. Specifically, that it's ok to make jokes about straight people but not trans, gay or what have you. Likewise racial jokes, and so on.
Asking for more empathy than you give is unfair, put plainly.
Of course I could go in depth about my personal beliefs here but to keep things on topic and brief I just want to say that I think comedy should be afforded the same protected status as any other speech, and as much as I wish people wouldn't use it I feel it's important that hate speech, as awful as it is, remain protected speech.
